Slicer configurations on managed lab computers

We run a media Mac lab that is managed through JAMF – software and settings are pushed out to the lab computers from a central management system – including PrusaSlicer. Individual users log in to each computer using their school IDs. Our two Prusa i3s are connected to individual OctoPrint servers. Currently we're running a dedicated computer for initiating prints with a special shared account that has the OctoPrint/physical printers already configured.

But we'd like users to be able to initiate prints from ANY computer in the lab, and their own user accounts.

Is there a way to share, say, a configuration file that includes the Octoprint/physical printer settings so that they're configured ahead of time on each computer/user account? Or another strategy for implementing pre-configured slicer settings for a whole lab of Macs?

RE: Slicer configurations on managed lab computers

11 months with no reply is disappointing.

I am a high school teacher and also have a managed lab of 40+ computers.  We just purchased 3 Mk4 printers & enclosures and I would like to be able to:

  • get the printers on the network so we don't have to use USB drives
  • update the slicer and set a default configuration for all users at any machine.

I have access to a file server so I can probably setup an octoprint but will have to learn how to do that.  But so far I've found no articles about how to manage Prusa Slicer in my lab for all users.

No doubt someone has done this, but finding someone who has documented it so far is proven fruitless.

Mmm I think your math is off. 11 months with no reply ?  Given it was posted In August and it’s now December I make that less than 4. Dates here are date/month / year. European style not US.
Also if the original poster or yourself had used Google to search for previous posts you will find there are already several that deal with this subject. Unfortunately I didn’t see this post at the original time it was made or I would have replied.

From setting up symlinks, or using Dropbox or similar etc there are several ways to do it.  When I’m back at a proper pc I’ll put together a list for you both. There’s no built in way to do syncing although the request has been made on the GitHub for PS.

For sharing configs Prusa slicer has a built in function for that. Under file>export you can export a config bundle or config. Uncle with physical printers. You can then import that in on a different machine. It’s slightly limited in that it only saves the custom profiles and not system ones but it’s a good way to make backups off machine too.

RE: Slicer configurations on managed lab computers

Ok in order of them popping up in the google search with a site: restriction limiting it to results on the forum

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/prusa-slicer-cloud-settings-sync-settings-between-pcs/
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/please-allow-cloud-account-storage-of-prusaslicer-settings/
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/prusaslicer-configurations-for-multiple-computers/
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/saving-profiles-on-shared-drive/
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/where-are-the-prusaslicer-configuration-files-on-a-mac/
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/how-to-make-user-presets-sticky-and-locally-shared/

There are more but I got bored 🙂  Also on the Prusa Slicer github there are also many posts requesting a built in sync function with variations of using prusa accounts to do it, etc etc.  Most of those get closed as duplicates and many of them also contain the information about various ways to achieve it already with a bit of user setup.  Also githubs search is actually ok unlike the one built into this forum, which frankly sucks which is why when searching for anything here use google with the site: https://forum.prusa3d.com/   before your search term.

There are also posts on reddit etc too that google throws up.
