Slicer adding lines to a curve

Hi All,

I have designed a part that has a curve in it using Fusion360 and when I slice and print it has lines in the curve.

In Fusion 360 it's like this:

And when converted to a 3MF and opened in Windows 3D Builder program it is still nice and smooth:

But when I bring into Prusa Slicer it suddenly isn't smooth anymore but has lots of ridges and edges in the curve and these appear in the printed part as highlighted in by the red arrows.  I have tried as a 3MF and STL from Fusion so wondering if it's a setting in Prusa Slicer I am using version 2.6.0 if that makes any differnce.

This looks like an export in low resolution so when the model gets tessellated, it ends up with those "ridges".

In Fusion, when you click on the body, make sure you set Refinement to High. You can further manipulate the resolution under Refinement Option but I found that High usually gives me more than adequate results but it also depends on the size of the object.

Yeah I see the idea of exporting in STL but I was exporting in 3MF and when opened in the Windows 3D Builder software there are no lines it's smooth as it is in F360.  Exporting as you suggest does work though so thanks for the advice I assumed that a 3MF export would be better quality but clearly not.

3MF doesn't effect the output resolution.  It bundles all the settings for the project so you don't have to figure them out from scratch again next time you print it.

Cheerio,

All 3mf's are not equal.  A 3mf saved from Fusion will contain different data to that saved from Prusa Slicer.

However I think this is a PS 'issue'.  This is basically the same issue with STEP imports.  See https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/8915   for example.

When you import an Step into PS it uses a built in default resolution on the model as it has to interpret the curve and 'rasterise' it (probably not the correct term for a 3d model but hopefully close enough to get the point across).  I suspect its doing the same with your 3mf.  By exporting it as stl you get to control the quality and PS isn't doing any internal conversion as its already triangles.

Good advice and thanks I will use STL exports then and watch the github issue to see if that fixes it.
