Reduce filament usage - how to replace solid infill
Hi,
I'm just getting started into the world of 3D printing, and I have received a step-file that I would like to print.
The model is a 5 mm thick mounting plate. I import this into the Prusa-slicer and see that it uses 21g for 'solid infill'.
How do I replace the solid internal of the plate with something less filament-consuming? I.e., leave the outer 1mm as solid only, and print only a pattern inside to just support the outer faces...
Will be happy to share the step-file, but unsure how to...

Not a lot of use, if you want help with a particular print save your project as a .3mf file
Files > Save Project as
Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.
However, in this case -
I see you have used 2.57g of Internal infill - this is your regular infill which would not be enough to support the top surface on it's own, it will first be covered with bridge infill and then one or more layers of solid infill until it is smooth enough to support the top layer.
Look in Print Setting > Layer and perimeters - these are the > Horizontal shells > Solid layers > Top
If you wish to reduce the vertical perimeters then the setting is a couple of lines above.
It's worth experimenting with these (on an unimportant print) to get the feel of how much of each to include in different circumstances.
Cheerio,

I have played around with the settings, but I cannot seem to do anything that reduces the infill.
Any tips are highly appreciated!

Unless you're claiming a calc error resulting in 21g, you're project seems to already be as you want it ~1mm shell with some infill.

You can trade of solid infill for perimeters by printing the plate on one of the small sides (standing up), but you will not save filament or time...
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
