Reading line thickness from "Preview" mode

In a preview post I was shown how to change the "View" in PrusaSlicer 2.4.1's "Preview" mode to see different legends and colourisations (e.g. Feature Type, Height, Speed, etc).

In the "Width" view I can see that the lines for my wipe tower are thicker than my main model, and I can guess *roughly* how thick they are by the colours the legend, but I can't see how to show the *exact* thickness of a specific part of the sliced model.

Is it possible to do this? If not, does the thickness of the lines in the wipe tower's first layer appear anywhere in the settings, or does it have a known default value?

To the best of my knowledge, the best way to do this is to change the size on one of the extruder's, if your using a 0.4 nozzle your purge block is printing at 0.45 first layer and all, ( regardless of first layer extrusion width) none of the advanced features for changing extrusion width change the purge block. I have an old MMU unit but haven't used it in years because of how unreliable it proved to be. It's simply not worth the effort for the number of successful prints, to failed prints ratio.

If you change the nozzle size on one of the extruder's you will see the change. In my experience, it's looking like you will have to edit this information manually in your g-code if you want to change it.

I would love to be proven wrong in this case.

Ah, I'm not using the MMU - just doing manual filament changes with a custom "M600" tool change command . It's only multicolour on the first layer so it just means sitting there waiting for that to finish before walking away and leaving it running on the rest of the model...

I *am* currently using a 0.4mm nozzle, and my "Print Settings -> Extrusion width -> First layer" was the default 0.42mm, but I found this in the gcode file which looks like the wipe tower was printing at 0.5mm:

;HEIGHT:0.2
;TYPE:Wipe tower
;WIDTH:0.5
;--------------------
; CP TOOLCHANGE START
; toolchange #4
; material : PLA -> PLA
;--------------------

I tried changing the "First layer extrusion width" to 0.5mm to match, and it definitely improved the finish on the first layer of my model - it was much smoother and more like the finish on the base of the wipe tower, but at the cost of detail as some of the finer multicolour detail in my model was mangled with the wrong colour bleeding into some edges.

I'm now toying with the idea of splitting my 2 colours into 3 filament settings - a "base" for my main colour and a "fine" and "coarse" detail for my second colour, then messing about with the "Extrusion multiplier" setting for the "fine" and "coarse" so that only the coarse detail is printed at 0.5mm.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree though :-).

You don't need a wipe tower for M600's the purge happens at the filament change, normally in the front printers left hand corner. This will produce a squiggly extrusion of  filament that you grab with pliers or tweezers before the print head reaches the print and begins to print again.

I'm not clear on what your trying to do.

"I'm not clear on what your trying to do." - nor am I tbh 🙂

I think I need to have a bit more of a play and get it straight in my head first...

I can't see a way to delete questions, so I'll mark it "Solved" for now.

Thanks for trying to help though - it's appreciated.
