Ram usage

Hi,

I'm having a problem where Prusa Slicer wants to use more RAM than is available, which prevents me from slicing. I have 64GB of RAM. In the Task Manager, I see that it's increasing from 10GB to over 80GB, then I get a message saying there's not enough RAM available. I have the latest version, 2.9.1. But it also happens with older versions.

I can slice very simple models, but even then the RAM consumption climbs to 70 GB. It manages to slice before the slicer notices that the consumption is too high.

I have no problems with other RAM intensive programs. It seems the slicer doesn't know how much RAM I have. Do you have a solution? Thanks

RE: Ram usage

It's windows 11 and i slice for a resin printer. Anycubic Photon Mono M7, if this makes a difference.

At work, I use it for a filament printer, and I've had no problems. But that's Windows 10.

Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately I gave up using Windows a long time ago so I can only offer generic advice.  I also don't know your printer but the printer code is probably a stack of png files with layer spacings.  As such the resolution will make a huge difference to the memory usage/file sizes.  There is no point in using XY resolution finer than your printer can output and the Z resolution will have a linear effect on memory requirements.  Z resolution and exposure will also affect print speed 'though XY won't.

Try juggling these values with a small print and compare file sizes - you may be able to find a workable optimum that you can the apply to larger jobs.

RE: Ram usage

Cutting each dimension in the resolution will make it 1/4 of memory usage, so instead of a native resolution try half of X and half of Y.

I believe quality difference shouldn't be that noticeable.

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
