RE: PursaSlicer 2.0.0 Not Responding

Is there a fast way to search and see if you have a Nahimic driver?

The quick research I did showed that the primary users of Nahimic drivers are MSI and Asus. The motherboard that I have is an Asus, and my laptop is an Asus.  I've never had an issue with  the laptop, but I can't say that I've ever tried using a multi-monitor setup on it.

I do have an MSI computer that I use for work.

Bottomline:  If you want someone to try to troubleshoot for you, I'm more than happy to help out. You folks have put out a tremendous product for the community, I'm happy to try to give back.

If you are a developer, you may install Visual Studio, compile Slicer and check where and why it crashes. Also we may buy such a computer and do the test here at our labs. Would you please give me an exact specification of the problematic setup?

Also you may try to complain at MSI, ASUS or Nahimic.

Let me see if I can dive in to that.  Last time I tried playing with Visual Studio... Well, let's just say programs of less than a couple of dozen lines are more my speed.

For my setup, I have an Asus ROG Strix Z-390, 64GB of RAM, Win 10 Pro, Intel i7-9700K (no overclocking or any real BIOS changes), EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 (NVIDIA) with 8GB of memory.

The system is running multiple displays.

I can corroborate the known driver issue (just not on my particular board).  It looks like many people are reporting that the Nahimic AUDIO "add-on" drivers are causing graphics issues.
Further, in the Asus support boards, many people are reporting that disabling the Nahimic audio driver is a good solution unless you are relying on an audio system to produce enhanced environmental sound (If you're running a system with just a headset or two speakers, you probably don't need this).

Can confirm that stopping Nahimic Audio Service (Task Manager -> Services -> NahimicService -> Stop Service) does not apparently affect audio output, as Heathens is still playing, without pause.

I'll see if I can get PrusaSlicer to lock-up again, and then see if disabling the service is s relevant fix.  I'm not a dev, but Nahimic may be causing the hang (or Nahimic may be causing the %AppData% issue, in which case the issue would persist even after disabling Nahimic, I think).

I have an Asus X-Code motherboard.

"Nahimic is just the sound enhancement they used on these boards. It's needed to enable Sonic studio and sonice radar fully. But it's also known to cause issues like slow application launches " ( https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?110279-Purpose-of-Nahimic-with-Realtek-Audio-Driver ).

It sounds like you can uninstall Sonic Studio and Sonic Radar without messing with the general audio drivers.  I'll have at it and see if I can get a crash.

Confirm the issue is with the Nahimic service.  It has a reputation for being an issue.  This is the reason you never install off the disk that came with the motherboard.

I stopped and deleted the service at the command line.  Then used Regedit to remove it.  I found a bunch of files in the system32 directory and am really tempted to delete them.

I restarted the system and opened and closed Prusaslicer 2.1 several times in different ways on different monitors and have not had an issue.

Thank you for the solution!  A bag of Haribro for you!

Also, can confirm that removing that single line from the C:\Users\####USERNAME####\AppData\Roaming\PrusaSlicer\PrusaSlicer.ini

works like a charm.

Stopping and Disabling the Nahimic driver via the Services App has worked for me.

I also uninstalled Sonic Studio and Sonic Radar.

Setup is; Asus ROG Strix Z-390E, 32GB of RAM, Win 10 Pro, Intel i7-9700K (Overclocked), Gigabyte GeForce GTX Ti OC with 6GB of memory. With twin 27" Dell monitors.

And I can still hear Evanescence!

Kudos to ty-b

I'm going to work on a batch file write up to make fixing this as easy as a single click.  It's quick and easy, I just need to get it done.  I'll try to post up in the next couple of days (Recovering from a deployment right now).

@mtnmage

Spent a day scratching my head on this one, reinstalled PS and GFX drivers many times. So simple when I read your post, as I moved the slicer to my second screen before my last good reboot, won't do that again.

Many thanks for your post.

Awesome, disabled the Nahimic service and back to the glory of multiscreen slicing.

Many thanks for your post.

We are implementing an automatic check for the Nahimic stuff, so at least PrusaSlicer will give you a warning.

Yeah.. If it's what I think it is, I posted on it in a few Redit forums.

There is a bug in the way the program closes when it is closed on a secondary or tertiary monitor.  In the INI folder in C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\AppData\Roaming\PrusaSlicer contains a line that tells the slicer where it was on the monitor when it was closed last.  If it was closed on a non-primary monitor, it writes a value that it cannot use and freezes half way through loading.

The line is:  window_mainframe = 465; 30; 1455; 1020; 0

If you delete this line or just delete the INI file, it will start working again without losing your presets; though you will have to click your way through the setup again if you delete the INI.

Hope this helps.

Definitely on the right track here. Apparently there is some leftover garbage in this C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\AppData\Roaming\PrusaSlicer folder.  I noted that this folder was a leftover from previous installs. I tried the ini trick but it didnt work.  then I just renamed the entire folder to xxxxxxPrusaSlicer then restarted the program and it started just fine and the folder was rebuilt.

This issue seemed to fix itself, for me.  Until it was fixed, I just had a BAT file on my desktop that deleted the file.  I didn't want to suggest that, as I was worried the solution wouldn't work for others.  I was really looking for a solution that would delete that one line, but something shiny happened and I completely forgot to get back to it.

Still an Issue

Where did we all end up for this bug? It just happened to me with the newest version of Prusaslicer 2.3.3. I would really like to put this to bed so I can use multiple displays since all of my PCs have multiple displays and I am constantly moving screens around.
