PrusaSlicer Supports impossible to remove after upgrade to 2.3.0.
Hi Folks. As above, never had an issue with support removal in the past, but with an upgrade to 2.3.0 I can't remove the supports. I have read advice on these forums from Bobstro and his settings working. I believe I have his settings set up, but still the supports are like part of the print. I have attached a screenshot of the settings. I'm printing PLA at 210 50 on a JGAURORA A1 with a 0.4mm nozzle. Hope someone can see my boo boo! Thanks in advance!

A few things to try:
- I use 75% XY separation versus the 50% you have set. That will usually affect removal from the sides though, not the interface between support and part.
- Be sure you've calibrated your extrusion multiplier for each filament. If you have over-extrusion, it will tend to fill gaps between things like support layers.
- You might try reducing temp by 10C and see if you still get good quality. Printing as cool as possible will help with supports. Be sure you've got good cooling going as well, but start with reducing temps.
You can try increasing that contact Z distance, but at some point, that becomes counter-productive. If all else fails, try ideaMaker. It is very good with large, flat supported areas.

My word Bob!....I'm glad I spoke well if your settings ! 🙂 Thanks for the very prompt reply. I will go change the XY separation. I must admit I have not looked at extrusion multiplier yet...but will do so now. I will also look at lower temps. Ideamaker is downloading as I type. I have a tripod base to make with a bit of support to print next. I will come back to you and let you know how it goes. Thank you Sir!

I have some notes on extrusion multiplier calibration. The notes are focused on reducing stringing, but the same issues apply to over-extrusion in general. I think 3D printing is more like cooking than precision machining. You have to get the basics right, but it takes a bit of experimentation and experience to get the best results. I like to develop a theory of why a problem is happening, then try some experiments to confirm the theory. I have found that calibrating my extrusion multiplier settings (diameter, multiplier) make the single biggest impact on overall print quality.
Give ideaMaker a try. It's a bit quirky to work with, and unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of notes to share. It does a very nice job with large, removable supports for flat areas. Other than that, PrusaSlicer beats it on most features. Raise 3D is doing their own interesting things though, and it's well worth watching different slicers. Cura's Arachne engine should be maturing soon as well.

I will have a look at your notes Bob. Thanks for taking the time to share! I agree 3D printing is very much a feel thing, but I think its a feel thing with an engineering or practical head on. I have been trying to get this JGAURORA A1 up and running for months on and off. I put a BTT SKR-MINI E3 V2 and TFT35 in this printer and I'm slowly getting it tuned in. I'm getting there.
