What platform? Maybe the config files are in a location you don't have access to?

To test @fuchsr theory, you can download the 64 bit version of this program. It will tell you if PrusaSlicer is being denied access to any files as well as where those files are located.

Just launch it (as an Administrator) before starting PrusaSlicer, launch PrusaSlicer, go back to FileAccessErrorView, and after organizing it by "Process," see if any of the processes under that tab are called "prusa-slicer.exe." If yes, then PrusaSlicer is being denied access to a file or files, probably a config file.

I attached an example of what it might look like.

If it's not being denied access to any files, check if your computer is on a Domain.

You can check, by pasting the below into the search bar on your computer and pressing Enter.

sysdm.cpl SystemProperties

Under the words "Full Computer Name," you'll either see the word "WORKGROUP," or "Domain" which will indicate whether it's on a Domain.

If it is, I would have your IT guy take a look at it. It might be something in Group Policy.

- or if you're on linux/unix you might have to change permissions, owner, or both.

The commands are chmod and chown but you will have to get the admin to do it - I'm assuming you don't have su/sudo privilege.

Thank you for the replies. I am on windows. @momo I will show IT your post and hopefully that is able to clear up the issue! (Darn IT departments taking away admin privileges)

IT is asking, if it is something in the group policy, do you have any idea what group policy object could be causing the issue?

In windows group policy can take admin privileges to various levels.

Did a quick check on my win 10 machine.

If it is a shortcut:

Try this "right click" on it. In the list you might see "run as admin" but it will work only for that instance. Go to the bottom and click "properties" then click "security". You should see groups or user name that have access and a table of the permissions for the selected user. Do not mess with it since you have access to an IT person (unless you know what you are doing). 

Now go back to the file. "right click" and select "properties"  now select "compatibility" If the group properties allow you will see a "setting"  with a tic box with "Run this program as an administrator" near the middle. That will make it run as admin all the time if you have permission.

If it is a program (.exe and such) and you have traced it to the proper folder. Right click on it. The popup window might be different but see if it has the "compatibility" and "security" tabs. Again that will depend on your group policies.

Since this is your work computer and your have IT support making changes might be against security policies of your company so you should consult with them before attempting any modifications or do them while on the phone with you.

Now, for me, I installed the slicer and use it as a regular user. So why do you have to run as admin at all? Again could be your company group policies that only allow certain approved programs but it doesn't explain why you were able to do so at all.

Not without looking at the policies. Did you check if you were being denied access to a file (With that program I linked)?

I recently got PrusaSlicer for my work computer and it was refusing to open (showing the loading screen but then not actually opening). I got somebody from IT to try opening it as an admin and that worked but once it was closed it went back to requiring admin. How can I open it in the future without needing to have someone from IT remote into my computer every time?
