PrusaSlicer on a tablet

Any plans to get a version for an iPad already so we don’t have to be perched in front of a computer all the time? It is 2022 you know……😎

I'm not competent to form an opinion re. Prusaslicer on a iPad but you can avoid having to be perched in front of a computer by using wifi (Octoprint or something similar).

This is what I do.  You do have to be on the same wifi network but it will work.

A forum is not a great place for suggestions.  I would contact Prusa by email or post the suggestion on the PrusaSlicer GitHub.

On a windows tablet that shouldn't be a problem, but there's no native way for iOS.

You could setup a server running e.g. Ubuntu and access it with through a VNC client from your iPad.

I wouldn't say there is no native way, but it does not exist today.  I think it can be done, but is there an interest by Prusa?

I’m not talking about accessing the printer remotely, I am talking about a version of the slicer for an iPad so we can slice files and save them to an SD card to later print out.

Well that's what I tried to say: As of today there's no native iOS version of PrusaSlicer. 😉

Me too.

No.  I forgot about it.  I do think it is possible.  I am not sure it is financially feasible.

Ah yes, 2022. When all the cool kids are paying $469 $899 for "distraction free" devices to do basic editing because they can't focus on busy screens.

The original $400 version was my motivation for this little project. Unfortunately, the scripts don't work with current raspberry pi OS.

Pretty neat.  It is interesting how a raspberry pi is more powerful than the computer or WordPresser system I had in college.

RE: PrusaSlicer on a tablet

I've had PS running on both a Raspberry Pi 4 (actually the 400) and an Asus netbook (Win 8) which has a detatched tablet mode.  The latter has a built-in micro-SD reader which I've used with a SD adapter on the printer.

The Asus and other brands of netbook/tablets are available at Best Buy and other usual suspect shops for a couple to a few hundred US $.

Raspberry Pi 4 sell for less than US $100 but have been in extremely short supply for the past few months.

There are a few international Pi 400's available here:

What is the difference in the RP 4 and a 400?

The 400 is basically a 4GB Pi 4 in a different form factor built into a custom keyboard.  Better cooled and slightly faster.

RE: PrusaSlicer on a tablet

The pi 400 is actually my 'desktop' PC in the train room.

The old crufty PC I had in there died and I first replaced it with a stand-alone pi and then decided just to buy the 400.

I use it mainly for logging in to the various devices that control things, as in lots of command line ssh sessions, but it's good for casual web surfing, document editing and even some low-impact 3d drafting and slicing.

FreeCad runs on it, but I must admit it's a bit slow and sloppy.

+1 to an iPadOS PrusaSlicer version. I'd pay for it.

RE: PrusaSlicer on a tablet

PSlicer works on macOS/Linux and Windows. Anything is possible with software, but no one is going to invest the time it takes to maintain iOS and Android versions for those screen sizes. A current solution was mentioned. You use a remote control s/w like TeamViewer and have a macOS/Windows machine always running ( your office work machine) and access it with your phone/tablet and do it all there..

2) PSlicer is run from the cloud and has a web interface and then it runs on everything.. If you look at Fusion 360 and some other programs they have varying degrees of stuff running from the cloud. This is why OctoPrint is so widely used; a web interface.

So rather than bother with porting Slicer for all the different portable OSes (not even considering Audruino, PI, etc) and then having to maintain them.. and then running into issues with the portable OS adds security that breaks their s/w.. no sane person is likely to invest that type of time.. (Have you been following the stress of the lady that maintains OctoPrint) .  A backend server running a multi-user version of slicer and a web interface seems the best to hope for; but I don't see any discussions of that.
