PrusaSlicer longer printing of Flexfill with 0.6 nozzle than 0.4 nozzle
Hi,
I am trying to slice a model for printing with FlexFill 98. I am surprised to see that slicing for nozzle 0.6 results in longer estimated print time as slicing with the nozzle 0.4. in this case I get 16h21min with 0.6 nozzle (o.3mm layer) and for the nozzle 0.4 I get 14h28min for the same layer height (0.3mm).
Why is it so? is there something wrong with slicer configuration (I use defaults)

It depends on MVS (maximum volumetric speed) in filament settings, which is 1.35 mm³/s in Prusaslicers standard setting for FlexFill 98.
That means the printer will use slower feeds with 0.6 nozzle then 0.4 to keep up with the extruders capacity
If you have lets say 4 external perimeters it will take much longer time to extrude those 4 perimeters due to MVS.
Look at the attached pictures, there you see much slower speed with 0.6
On the other hand you can, due to wider extrusion width with the bigger nozzle, reduce the number of perimeters and still maintain wall thickness.
Hope it helped somewhat, it would be much easier if I could explain it på svenska 😀

@ringarn67
many thanks!
your reply is perfectly clear, I wasn't aware there is such a big difference in extrusion speed between flexfill and other filaments (let say PETG).
Takk! 🙂
