Prusaslicer improvements

I don't know where I should post this, so I guess this will be good enough. From my experience, I wanted to put out there a few suggestions, in no poticular order for foture Prusaslicer improvements, since I heard that the Prusa team is hard at work on Prusaslicer 2.8 or even 3.0.

  • More accurate part movement:            -> At this moment in time, all we have is world and object coordinates and the arrows. The world coordinates, while useful at times, is a bit of a hassle to use. This leaves us with the arrows, which work good, and the object coordinates. My problem is that after you change the object coordinates they zero out.                    -> Solution: something similar to what cura has, aka a pop-up menu that appeares when you move the part and that, for as long as you don't close it, the changes remain. Like if you move the object 40mm to the left, it stays to 40mm until you close the menu. It's more convinient since, right now, in Prusa you have to write the coordinates with minus to move it back, which isn't a huge issue but it could be easier.                                         -> Same thing for rotation, I'd like to see a pop-up menu that allows me to see how much I rotated the object and that doesn't zero out unless I close the menu.
  • Improved accuracy:                                 -> I did a test, not long ago, comparing Cura and Prusaslicer, and what I noticed is that, while Prusaslicer overall did better, the Cura profile had much sharper lines on the benchy I made. Like the door and window frames would catch my nail while on the one sliced with Prusaslicer my nail would just slide over. Keep in mind that the cura sliced benchy was printed with the stock prusa mk3s+ profile, no modifications.                                          -> Solution: very simple, just increase the corner accuracy.
  • Improved sequential printing:                -> Sequential printing is very useful for when you have a filament that makes a lot of stringing and you don't want to ruin the surface of your print. But it can do so much more. I tried recently to print a bunch of small parts, only like 4 - 5 min each, in diffrent colors and I decided to use sequential printing so I didn't have to wait for my printer to cool down and reheat and so on. But when I tried to add the color change, I got a warning saying that I can't add custom g-code to sequential printing.                             -> Solution: allow us to make small groups in sequential printing and to add color changes between the groups. This, like I previously said, would be incredibly helpful for printing a number of small parts, all with diffrent colors, without having to wait like 10 min for the printer to cool then to heat up again between prints. It would also save on electricity.
  • Fuzzy skin paint tool:                              -> This is a pretty requested feature but I'd like to add it to my list also because why not, lol. I can't even count on my fingers how many prints I wanted to do with fuzzy skin but I ended up not doing it because the fuzzy skin would've gotten on a part that I needed to be smooth. Sure, I could add custom modifier blocks but for a complex model that would be a HUGE pain.                                             -> Solution: add a paint tool, like pain-on supoorts. It would make the whole process a whole order of magnitude easier and it would encourage people to use it more, because, honestly, it's a great setting that works good.
  • Improved cut tool:                                   -> Now, the cut tool has been through a lot and it's incredibly good, but, it still lacks some things. Mainly the ability to move the cut line when you rotate it. If I want to cut an object in half on the Y axis, I have to do it either with the inaccurate arrows or rotate the part and then cut it on the Z axis. It adds extra steps for no reason.          -> Solution: allow us to change the Z in: "Cut position:  Z:". Very simple fix (in my inexperienced opinion)
  • Allow us to save the setting changes in the Preview section:                          -> Maybe here I'm just dumb and I don't know how to change it, but whenever I wanted to make the seam line visible and leave it visible, I wasn't able to. Now sure, I could just remember to make that visible every single time I slice, but I feel like I should be able to turn the visibility on and it should stay on. Especially for such an important feature that some more forgetful people (like me) may forget, and only remember after you start or even finish the print, forcing you to sometimes start the print over (yes, I had to do that a couple of times)                                                      -> Solution: Either make the settings in the preview legend stay active if the user turned them on, or at least make the seam line visible at all times.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Prusaslicer, I mean, I switched to it from Cura which I had been using for a whole year because it's so good, and I would never switch back. But Prusaslicer is missing a few things, and here are a few. If I'll think of any more or remember any more I'll edit this post. But hopefully someone from Prusa will see this and will at least suggest it to the Prusaslicer team.

Also, sorry for messy writing, I don't know how to arrange posts, this is my first one 😅

RE: Prusaslicer improvements

The correct place is the Prusa Slicer github.  Located at https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues

From skim reading your list I think most if not all already has at least one issue open for it and has already been made.  As there are currently over 3700 OPEN issues please search for existing ones that match before opening any new ones though.  Use as many keywords as might be relevant too.

For example
Colour Change for sequential Printing - https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/7404
Paint on Fuzzy skin - https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/6988
Remember preview settings - https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/9468 or https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/8418

There are LOTS of cut based ones.  Anyway go have an explore and you might want to turn the open filter off and also see some of the many many closed issues too. Many are closed for being duplicates.
