PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 Brim and Skirt

Hi,

I just noticed, if set the brim wide enough like 5mm, on some area of some part. the skirt line and brim will overlap which cause 1st layer to fail in some case. seems like the calculation of the skirt area is not taken brim into consideration.

Also, seems like with elephant food compensation enabled. the part and the brim will be detached (a tiny gap) which render the brim useless. I hardly use brim, not sure if this this new issue or not. last time I used it was  a while ago. I did not noticed it.

you can set skirt to  'Loops = 0',

or Distance from 'Object, 8'

and as you note you can set elephants foot compensation to 0

chances are your adhesion issue if poor cleanliness of the build plate,

I wash and dry mine, to restore adhesion

Best wishes,

Joan

@joantabb

I was try to submit a application improvement  suggestion.

Yes, I disabled the skirt to workaround the issue after initial failure and it's not cause by bed adhesion. instead the skirt pulled off from bed by nozzle when it overlay on top of brim which is not suppose to be there. Same for the brim gap, I have to disabled elephant food compensation. But do we agree the Slicer "SHOULD" take those into calculation instead of pretend nothing to see here and just keep disable features? Unless there are documented reasons those features can't be enabled together, at least for a warning.

BTW, Thanks for the tool suggested for clean the bed. did not thought about that before, just IPA and paper towel.

Hi Painkiller,

this is  Peer support forum, Prusa rarely look in.

the moderators are unpaid users.  so we have little direct impact on Prusa developments.

if you want to make development suggestions. Prusa Github, is the place to go.  The Prusa Developers work there all of the time!

Prusa have different Github pages for each product!  some user ideas have been included in later developments.
regards

Joan

I can tell you now that both of these issues (multiple times) has been raised and closed again on github.  The current behaviour is the intended design behaviour according to the devs.  As the distance of the skirt is configurable and so is the size of the brim then it is not viewed as errant operation.  It gives the user complete control of if they want or do not want them separated, touching or overlapping.

The issue of the brim not touching the part is also the current intended operation but is frankly bad operation in my opinion.  The reasoning behind it is that the elephants foot 'squish' should exceed the footprint and so connect to the brim.  If you have your elephants foot compensation perfectly tuned for your plate and z height then it does connect and it is easy to remove.  However the default 0.2 compensation is too aggressive usually and many people dont realise they can adjust it.  When that happens the brim doesnt touch anymore making it pointless.  However, again this issue has been opened and closed many times and again as its 'correct'.  Admittedly if it moved in with the first layer it can make the brim more difficult to remove as the squish can make the join too much.

Its one reason I'm using Super Slicer now (fork of PS) as that moves the brim in with the first layer but it has a separate brim offset value that allows you to set the distance from the first layer to compensate for squish.
