RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

I posted a link to a resource up above: the last post in that link has the info that helped the folks who read the thread: if this doesn't help, then I am out of ideas.

I have the exact same problem, will run for a short time, then shuts down without any kind of error, just the Windows chime.  This only started occurring with the latest version of the prusa slicer.  I can load the old version and it runs fine but that version has no undo button, what a pain in the ass.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

My PrusaSlicer is still crashing! I updated the Nvida driver to date 18.03.2019 version 25.21.14.1972. This drive will be installed using Windows10 device manager.

PrusaSlicer crashes frequently without any interaction, just calling it. From my point of view this random crashes are very dangeres using firmeware update function!

The crashes does not happen with Slic3r!

Guys I found a solution for the problem but it made other programs to stop working correctly. anyways I found a solution to make it work for my workflow. I hope that it works for you too. Here.

Disabling the Intel GPU in the Device Manager (you will need to be plugged in and the Power scheme on High Performance)

"I was thinking that maybe my best solution in order to make everything work. its to anable and disable the Intel graphics. For example when I need to use the PRUSA software I disable the drivers and then when I need to use AutoCAD I then anable the drivers. I already tried it and it works. its going to be a little anoying but then I can make everything work inluding the software for the SCANER. this software was n first place what made me change everything. I will keep most of the time the Intel driver on. since I use autocad the most, and then eventually when I need to use the PRUSA software for a couple hours I disable the Intel drivers"

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

@ciscolara - did you try editing the command line for prusa-slicer as indicated in the above post?  That bypasses the need to disable the actual hardware, and forces the program to use software (exactly what happens when you disable the hardware).  So it should work for you.

You make then change here, and change Target: accordingly:

The actual entry would be this:

"C:\Program Files\Prusa3D\PrusaSlicer\prusa-slicer.exe" --sw-renderer --loglevel=5

And System Info will show this:

You may also try the current alpha

https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/releases/tag/version_2.2.0-alpha2

I know we fixed one issue, where the software was likely allocating too much of GPU memory for the bed texture. The fix may help.

https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/3008

Also you may try to backup your profile directory which is "C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\PrusaSlicer" or "C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data\PrusaSlicer" on Windows, and delete it.

The alpha mentioned above stores its user data to PrusaSlicer-alpha, so you don't need to do that for the alpha build.

@bubnikv

So every time I delete "PrusaSlicer-alpha" from "C:\Users\thone\AppData\Roaming" I'm able to click through the config wizard and the plate surface graphics will show and can be rotated smoothly with no issues. Only until I right click or click "File" in the file menu will the program crash. I also can drag and drop an .STL on the plate fine, but as soon as I rotate the solid using the handles, the program will crash.

Thanks,

Thomas

Just in case someone else finds this thread.  I was having the same issue with 2.1.1 today, and running the app "as administrator" cleared the problem up.  Windows 10 Home edition, x64.  1903 Build.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

Just read throughg this thread - after I suffered repeated and reproducible crashes this morning (didn't have the time for a thorough test, but will try some of the stuff mentioned here this evening).

Whats happening in my case: when I start slicing (and only then) in a specific selection of extruders, the slicer crashes without a trace.

I'm running the MMU2 with the colorprint setting (in my case one colour change halfway up a flat badge). All extruders loaded. Using extruder #2 and #5 - and every time I try to slice with extruder #2 selected, PrusaSlicer crashes. If I run the same procedure, but select extruder #1 instead of #2, the slicer worked (only had time for one test this morning).

Yes, I could work around that specific issue by swapping out the spools - but that's not quite what I want.

Another (probably unrelated) issue is that the user interface for the colorprint option is rather clumsy (to say the least) - I haven't yet found out how to reliable get to the point where I could add additional layers or how to make the extruder selection pull-down menu come up reliably.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

O...kay.... preliminary update and response to myself: after getting the same problem this morning, with a different object and selecting different extruders, I switched to 2.2.0-alpha2. Worked at the first attempt, and the colorprint extension seems to work better, too (or I got used to it...).

Also, 2.2.0-alpha2 seems to slice much faster. Since I'm using gyroid infill, that might point to the current troubles with gyroid in 2.2.0-alpha3.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

Seen a similar random thing with Win10 pro, UAC off, Nvidia RTX 2070. Running Prusaslicer 2.2 Alpha 2 Windows 64 as Administrator. Slicer starts OK but goes not responding when you try to open a file. Nothing shows in windows logs as a problem. A reboot always fixes it and it doesnt happen if you open Prusa slicer before any other program. Something else that's been open seems to have done or grabbed something to prevent it running. It NEVER happens with release version.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

im having the same issue.

i can open prusaslicer 2.1 but get random crashes.

no errors reported, it just closes. sometimes i can slice a model and it will carsh when i try to export.

other times it will crash when i hit slice. others it will just crash with no input at all.

ive had to buy a new laptop a few weeks ago, and have only just started to see this behaviour.

im running win 10 home. on an acer swift 3, with RADEON Vega 3 video graphics.

i have tried all of the recommendations listed here, and nothing seems to be helping.
running as administrator seems to help a little in making it more stable, but i have had crashes as admin too.
and when its running as admin, i can't drag and drop models to the build plate.

seriously hoping the next release fixes these issues.

Jason.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

We are sorry to hear about these issues. It is very difficult to troubleshoot a situation that we cannot reproduce ourselves and we didn't hear about such issues from our colleges either.

It may be either a buggy graphics driver, or there may be a buggy 3rd party application interfering with PrusaSlicer as the Nahimic driver https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/2522 . It may be a bug in PrusaSlicer as well, that for some reason triggers on very low number of computers.

If you give us a precise description of your setup, we may get hold of the same setup and try to reproduce the issue.

RE: Prusa Slicer Crashing

i have an acer swift 3 sf314-41 with amd athlon 300U CPU, 8GB ram with Radeon GFX chip.
if it helps, this laptop is basically a clean skin, with no other software installed, only prusaslicer and win 10 home.

i am starting to pull my hair out here, as i cant use prusaslicer at the moment. its just way too unreliable.

i just had a crash when i was just setting print quality. no model was even loaded at the time.

what ever this issue is, its only recent, as this was working fine a week ago.

hopefully the prusaslicer 2.2 version when it is released will be more stable.
im not big into being beta / alpha testing. so ill wait till the new one comes out.

and in the mean time i guess ill have to use a different slicer. not that i want to.

jason.
