Problem with PrusaSlicer 2.3.0
Hello all
I have been using Prusa Slicer for 2 years. I use to group different objects of a project into the same .3mf project file to apply the same settings to all of those objects. To generate the printable ".code" files, I hide some objects to optimize the organization of the plate, I run the "Arrange" function so that they are distributed on the plate and I run the "slice". Until then it worked well and it suited me very well!
But I installed the new version 2.3.0 of PrusaSlicer (what a mistake!) And it doesn't work anymore ... it's a big mess on the plate! : the objects leave the plate with the message: "an object outside the print area was detected" !! if I try to move them with the mouse ... they all seem to be linked!
it is unmanageable!
Do you have to re-install the old version? and forgo the cool new features of this version!
Did you run into these difficulties and how did you solve the problem?
Thanks in advance

How were you 'hiding' the objects ?  I'm not sure exactly what you are having a problem with.

Arrange works the same as before.
If you dont want to print an object you simply click the eye icon in the tree view.  That object will get a strikethrough on it indicating it wont be sliced/printed and the colour on the plater will go dark too giving you a visual indication.

If you exported a bunch of separate objects as a project then they should still be separate.  If you exported them as as a stl then they will be linked, that hasn't changed.  There may be an issue around how a 2.2 project was saved as opposed to how 2.3 treats the project but without the project its impossible to say.

Please save one of your problem project files, zip up the resulting 3mf file (so that the forum will accept the file type) and post it here.  That way we can see exactly what settings and positioning etc you are having trouble with.

Personally I can open any of my old 3mf project files from 2.2 and have no trouble with them in 2.3

thank you for the answer
I do exactly like you do to hide objects: I click on the eye (object printablle property).
I can also open any old project except this problem everything works as before. My objects are imported one by one, I'm used to it.
I attach a zip file containing my whole project.

Fred

I haven't noticed any changes in the new version. I do what you do quite frequently, and I don't see any change in behavior between this and the previous version. Uploading the .3mf would help

There are times when all STLs will be selected and move as a group. Hitting ESC will deselect them and allow clicking on individual parts again.

Good point. Didn’t think of this. This gets me sometimes too. But I don’t think this has changed between versions, or did it?

@fuchsr

I think it has changed since I was doing it like this and I hadn't noticed

I noticed that this happens when I do "arrange" after hiding one or more objects.
It worked well with the previous version to rearrange the board after hiding items ... in practice it makes sense to do that!
In this version, if I don't "arrange" it works fine or if I rearrange the objects manually. If I hide objects and save the project as is, when I reopen it, the problem reappears.
In my opinion it is a bug but it is not blocking! everything is fine so!
Thank you for your advice and help.
I can therefore continue to use my favorite slicer by changing a little my "little" habits

I think this one counts as a "bug-like feature". I like being able to have everything selected at times. I'm not sure there's any other way to move everything as one group. I'm used to it now.

I do have times when right-clicking doesn't show the context menu reliably. I have to click away and back again. I swear it started a month or so after installing 2.3.0. I haven't changed the software, but it's suddenly an annoying problem.

I didn't notice this except when my mouse is malfunctioning!

I have the right-click issue frequently on my Mac.  I've taken to doing a CTRL and left-click to bring up the context menu.  I'm not sure when it started, but I've been on 2.3.0 or earlier betas of it for a long time.

Interesting. I'm also on MacOS (Mojave). I'd write up a ticket on GitHub, but I'm unable to reliably replicate the problem. It seems to get better sometimes. I'm tinkering with a lot of window manager enhancements (tiling, etc.) that might also be adding to the problem.

Can you use the Split feature to split what appears to be a single STL, into component parts?

@joantabb

Hi, thanks for the answer

The objects are well separated, I designed them like that and exported one by one.

I think I solved the problem, I had not seen the automatic centering parameter in the settings of Prusa Slicer.

And you should not use the "arrange" function after hiding objects.

Thanks again for the advice

Fred
