Problem with prusa slicer and support during print

HI,

I have a problem with Prusa slicer that I can't solve, since the first versions, in practice between the support and piece, or between the support interface and the piece there is a distance of 5 layers, even by setting layer height 0.1mm and distance between support or between interface and piece 0.1mm. any distance I impose I always have 5 layers of separation, now I have prusa slicer 2.7.1, while with version 2.4 the distance was 2 layers. I hope someone can help me, because I can't print anything that requires supports and I have to use other slicers for these particular prints.

I have already tried to set the "preset" settings of the slicer, but nothing changes compared to the settings I made.

I tried to set the ender 3 instead of my printer, and the problem persists, in practice it is independent of the printer or the print preset that I set, the problem occurs on all the PCs where I have installed prusa slicer (and I have not copied the slicer data from one PC to the other, but each time I did everything new).

Thanks for help

Massimo

I've never see seen any of what you're describing, so that's confusing. Can you create a project, save it as a 3mf file, zip compress it, and upload it here? This way we can see all your settings.

RE:

ok, i will do it, and i attach the gcode too.

yesterday I tried to insert the settings that a friend of mine uses into my slicer, in practice I installed his printer in the slicer and loaded his settings for the prints, same problem, 5-6 layers of separation between the support and the piece. I sent the drawing to my friend, he put it in his Prusa slicer, set z distance 0.1 and layer thickness 0.1mm, for him there is only one layer of distance...for me 5-6 layers. Now I tried to put Prusa slicer 2.7.1 on another PC (was installed a 2.3) delete all prusa directory, taking the Ender 3 as a test, taking the preloaded settings of the filaments and the printing settings, I try to set layer thickness 0.1, Z distance of the support 0.1, and it gives me always 5 layers of detachment I did all the tests with adaptive layers enabled and then disabled.

I know it's a strange problem, with all the other slicers if I set layer thickness 0.1 and Z distance 0.1, it leaves me with only one layer between the support and the piece.

if you want i can try to upload a video where i show you all layer between support and piece.

I think  new members need to have made ~5 posts before they can attach things.  SO just reply here once that should knock your post count to 5 and then post again and try and attach it.

I don't use dropbox so your file is inaccessible.

The forum software is ridiculously picky.

.3mf files are actually renamed zip files - but it won't accept them, it won't accept rar either - but it does accept .3mf files renamed to .zip (tell us if you do this) or .3mf files rezipped as .zip files.

Cheerio,

RE: Problem with prusa slicer and support during print

On the road today so all I was able to do was a super quick look at the 3mf file. From what I could see there's a lot of differences to the standard creality profiles. Have you tried just using the default 0.1 profile? And do you have a photo of what 5 layer missing looks like? The slicer preview looked fine but this was on an iPad remotely logging in to my home computer so I'm not sure I saw everything right.

Maybe I dont understand the problem, but I see no apparent spacing/separation issues by just opening the file and slicing it.

The lack of interface layers might be an issue when actually printing, but otherwise seems fine on my end.

Hi, I tried using both the slicer's pre-set profiles and mine, nothing changes... I use mine, at least you also have the same project. As you can see from the images at 38.10mm there is the last layer of the support, and the piece starts to be printed at 38.60mm while I set a z distance between the two of 0.1mm, not 0.4mm.

RE: Problem with prusa slicer and support during print

I don't see anything wrong. What might be confusing is that the heights of support layers are not aligned with the heights of model layers, so they grow at different rates. In this case, the support layers are 0.2mm high. But when they get to 38.4 they leave a 0.1mm high free space below where the overhang goes.

May I suggest a few changes? First I would switch to snug supports. In the preview, this also allows you to better check the behavior. I would add at least 3 or 4 top interfaces to the supports, and for 0.1mm layer height I would probably raise the z distance to 0.2 mm, to make them easier to remove.

I'll try, but with distance Z 0.2 I got a very ugly surface. Isn't it possible to do as in the images below? look, layer 383 is the last of the support, 384 is the Z distance set to 0.1mm, and 385 the piece.... in this way the prints come out perfect with Cura

Switch to Snug, and change Pattern angle to 90

thanks, but the Z distance does not vary, it was always 4 layers, but I think I solved it, I'll write it later

RE: Problem with prusa slicer and support during print

I think I solved it by disabling the "thick bridges" option, now 38.40mm is the last layer of the support, 38.50mm is the Z distance I set (0.1mm) and 38.60 is the first layer of the piece . By doing the "thick bridge" visually it was as if the material fell without support and it was very ugly to look at, it seemed that there were multiple layers of distance between the support and the piece, but as you said it was right, the layers were just not synchronized due to the bridge thickness. I'll try to make a printout, and keep you updated. thank you all
