Printer Profile vs Physical Printer

What exactly is the difference (or rather: the boundary) between the Printer Profile and the Physical Printer in PrusaSlicer.  When I create a new printer profile, I would like to be able to just use that on one of the physical printers.   Instead I have to create a new physical printer that contains the new profile (and copy the PrusaConnect parameters from an existing printer).

I would expect that a printer profile would contain all the software/settings aspects of the printer, i.e. custom GCode, multi extruders, basically everything in "Printer Settings".  A physical printer would just be the PrusaConnect settings or an IP address.  And rather than going through the silly process of tieing a Printer Profile to a Physical Printer, I would expect to be simply able to select each of them separately.  I really don't get it, is there something I'm missing?

I think what you're missing is that a single physical printer can be tied to many printer profiles.

The specific feature that you're missing—and it's truly not obvious, so you're in good company—is the Plus icon in the Physical Printer setup screen.

Click on it, and you can add multiple printer profiles to a physical printer.

I wish this feature was easier to discover...
