Phantom part shows up in plater & slicer views

I have configured PS 2.4.1 for manual filament multiplexing so I can print a 2-color model using a single manual filament change.  I set the number of extruders to 2, and checked the box for 'Single Extruder Multi Material'.  However, when I went back to the plater view, a part showed up on the plater - a part with no corresponding object in the object list.  Clicking on the part highlights it as usual, but clicking 'Delete' does nothing.  Adding my intended parts goes OK, but the phantom part remains.  If I slice the model, the phantom part gets sliced along with everything else.

If I revert to a single extruder, the phantom part goes away.  Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong here?

TIA,

Frank

Firstly, you do know you can insert pictures without forcing people to download a zip file ?  Use the Add Media button.  That allows you to upload your pictures to the prusa server and you can then insert them into the post and control the displayed size etc.

Secondly, you aren't doing anything wrong.  You just don't know enough - yet.  Your 'phantom' part is the wipe tower.  Its where if enabled the single extruder multi material purge/filament changes are printed to.  You can resize it and reposition it but if you have it enabled you cant delete it.  After all you have it enabled.

You might want to check out the Prusa Slicer knowledge base in general and the multi material in particular https://help.prusa3d.com/en/category/multi-material-slicing_881

RE: Phantom part shows up in plater & slicer views

Thanks for the informative reply.  I have never tried to do a multimaterial print with my MK3S, so the print tower default was a new one on me.  Seems a little disingenuous of PS to add an object and not put "Wipe Tower" in the object list - that's sort of the epitome of a 'bad GUI trick". Anyway,  I found and unchecked the wipe tower option, and now all is well - yay!

Regarding photos and attachments, I have lost track of the number of times I have tried to add a photo or two, and had it either reject it as being too large, or the wrong file type.  So now I just zip it up and add it as a matter of habit. Why the Prusa forum doesn't support drag & drop is beyond me.
