Perimeter value

Hello. Why does changing the perimeter parameter by one unit lead to such a difference in the number of outer perimeter layers?

RE: Perimeter value

As you havent attached a zipped up project file to your post so we can see your settings the following is a guess.  If you want more certainty then you need to use File>Save Project As to save a 3mf project file.  The zip that up and attach it.  Must be zipped for the forum to accept it.

With that standard 'please do this when requesting help' bit out the way lets proceed 🙂

From your pictures it appears you are using a modifier mesh to change parameters.  The way modifiers work is that when you change parameters its actually sliced as a separate 'part'.  So its adding perimeters for the 'new' perimeter area on your original object AND its adding perimeters for the modifier too.  Result double perimeters.

Yeah, as I said its the fact you are using a modifier.  If you set it like in the attached project I think it will be more like you want.

👍 Okay, but I don't understand the addiction. If you put a value equal to three, why do the layers disappear altogether.

RE: Perimeter value

Do you mean the perimeters disappear ?  as the layers don't.

As I said in my first post when certain of the settings are different it in effect treats it as different objects/parts.  If the perimeters value is identical then it just makes all the existing perimeters equal to that value, in your case 3.  So your modifier is removing the top and bottom layers as you have set and also changing the infill pattern, it doesn't have to do anything with perimeters so it doesn't alter those and they slice just like the modifier isn't there, as in isn't in effect for perimeters.

As soon as you make the perimeter count different then you have a discontinuity, at that point it has to treat the boundary of the 2 areas as if they are different.  As your first model now in effect has a new perimeter area (where its up against the modifier) then it adds 3 perimeters there.  The modifier, also being a separate object that has a perimeter count of 4 also needs those perimeters generating for ITS boundary, so it add it adds them too.  This results in 7 where they butt up against each other.

Its just a side effect of how the modifiers were implemented.  There have been several issues raised about this on the PS github , however its just the way it is, for now at least.
You can actually get similar things with top/bottom layers depending on the geometries involved too.
