Perimeter Start/End not connected with bigger nozzle
Hi there,
I recently switched my V6 (0.4 nozzle) to a Volcano (0.8 and 0.6 nozzle). Haven't got any problems with the V6, but I wanted to print with bigger nozzles (and fast). But now I seem to have a problem with the Prusaslicer which I'm not able to solve.
When slicing in my 0.28-Profile with a 0.4mm nozzle everything is alright. The extrusion-width is set to 0 in all examples so the nozzle-width is taken. After changing the nozzle to the 0.8 (or 0.6) there are holes in the perimeters. I get these in every model (3D-Benchy, the fan-duct in the Screenshots, a small cube which I use to calbrate the flow).
Also tried the standard-profiles and just changed the extrusion-width to 0 and nozzle-diameter in the printer-settings to 0.8. Same problem. It really prints like this, so not only in the preview.
After moving the majority of my settings to Cura (just to check), it's printing flawlessly. But I don't want to use Cura.
Nozzle: 0.4 - Layer-Height: 0.28
Nozzle: 0.8 - Layer-Height: 0.28
Nozzle: 0.8 - Layer-Height: 0.6

Do you mean that you switched your hotend to a Volcano hotend from a V6? I don't think you can just switch to a volcano nozzle.

Yes, I switched the heater block to a Volcano-block and the nozzle to a Volcano-nozzle. Sorry if I wasn't clearly.

You do know you also need to modify the firmware to compensate for the reduced headroom and Z heights, right? Though, that's all separate from telling Slicer you have a larger nozzle. Have you tried selecting the 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm nozzle profiles Prusa provides to see how they slice?

I'm using klipper and adjusted the config-files. Set the nozzle-size, which is only used for some safety-features, Z-Offset (using a BLTouch), PID-Calibration ...
Like I said, it's sliced and printed correctly with Cura, but I would like to stay with the PrusaSlicer. Using 2.3.0 and tried 2.3.1. No change in the behavior. For me it seems to be an error in Prusaslicer, but maybe there is any setting which I didn't try. I just tried a fresh 0.8-Profile for the MK2.55 and got the same problem.
I also tried to slice a benchy and a little cuboid.
That's the benchy. The defects look less important, but the print as little holes in the outer perimeters.
Same in the perimeters of the cuboid.
When I change the Z-Seam-Alignement to "Aligned" it moves all of the holes into the same place. So I think it's an issue with the z-seam.
It seems to stop before the end of the outer perimeter. Maybe to compensate the flow to not print any blobs. I don't need/want this, because I'm using Pressure Advance in klipper which gives me very good results and also affects the other edges. Both together gets me pretty big holes, but also when I disable Pressure advance I get tiny gaps in the perimeters.
Is there any setting to disable this, so it just connects the outer perimeters?

Rather than guess at your settings, perhaps someone who has built the same printer as you can respond. I don't have your hardware and certainly can't recreate your settings to validate or invalidate what you've done.

I have an Ender 3 with a BMG-Extruder on a Volcano as direct-drive (directly mounted into the BMG). Not sure why the printer-settings are relevant to this, because the problem also occurs with the regular settings for the Prusa-Printers. So I don't see any connection to the printer itself or klipper.
Maybe someone could slice a Benchy on his 0.8-setting and take a look at the preview. I would like to know if it looks the same.

Thanks. So it's definitly "standard", then I'm really clueless. Did you print anything with this profile?
I took a look at my prints before the volcano and there are also tiny little holes. But they are really tiny and "acceptable" as z-seam. Still I don't understand, why the seam is getting that much bigger with bigger nozzles.
Also I just changed to a 0.4 Volcano-nozzle and printed the cubiot. the print is near to perfect. No problems with the V6-settings I used before, just the little z-seam. I really don't know what's wrong with the 0.6 and 0.8 settings. It's working flawlessly with Cura, but get's me some really bad prints with Prusaslicer.

Ii have no issues printing a Benchie on my MK3s with these settings.

Thanks for the reply. I will take a look to some more settings. Maybe it's really some klipper-setting which doesn't show when using Cura. If someone has any idea, feel free to reply. Will try what I can.

No - I don't have a 0.8 mm nozzle. But I trust Prusa did at least one test, and I know other users have printed using Prusa large nozzle profiles ,including this one.
Again - impossible to help when your hardware is so drastically different. The only place in slice I'd guess at being a problem is volumetric flow. But then even the extruder may barf at trying to pump more plastic due to insufficient drive currents -- you built your firmware, so know knows what is going on there.

I printed this. I am on the road, but it came out ok. Not great but ok even with a 0.8 nozzle.
