Paint on supports?

Maybe I don't understand how this is intended to work. I set up auto supports and sliced. It didn't put supports in one place where I believed I needed them, so I used the paint on feature but it didn't show when I resliced.

RE: Paint on supports?

Paint on requires setting Support for Enforcers.

It would be good to post your project showing a support not happening where you expect. Usually a simple change to the angle does the trick.

I have supports turned on everywhere. So the paint on supports can't be used to augment the auto supports?

You can either turn supports on to fully auto and let slicer decide where to put them or you can define areas where you want them to be touching in which case the support dropdown needs to be set to Enforcers Only.

RE: Paint on supports?

It's probably the Don't Support Bridges setting in Slicer. Or some other setting like the bridge angle.

Since we only have a few words on the issue - impossible to guess. So here's a link to the guide book.

i turned off the Don't support bridges feature and got the support material where I wanted it but I think the paint on/auto supports is either or.

That's what Neo said.  Still, we are guessing because we haven't a clue what problem you are trying to solve because we can't see it.

No guesswork involved. The problem as stated was that paint on supports didn't seem to work with auto supports. Neo suggested you can use auto supports OR paint on, and that appears to be the case.

RE: Paint on supports?

All Paint on enforcers do is define surfaces on the model that you would like supports to be placed.  Modifiers covering larger areas do the same job but in a less targeted manner, although a combination of modifiers and paint on can work well.

Once those areas have been defined its still then processed by the support algorithm.   Same as with Auto and using an angle value.  That's selecting faces based on angles too.  Its just using a different selection method.

Which is why for bridges you can get appear to have 'missing' support if you have 'Dont support bridges' ticked with ANY of the support options.

I must admit I don't really use auto supports now at all since paint on was released.  As you can autoset by angle and see the blue areas for different angles using the paint option and then you can tweak it using shift to remove some.

If your issue is answered then that's good but if not then Tim's point about attaching a project file is the defacto best way to get further help as it removes any ambiguity about settings, models, modifiers, placement etc.
