Multipart Object Message loading .3MF

I have a project that consists of several .stl files generated in openSCAD.  Sometimes when I save the project to a .3mf  and reload it I get a dialog box that asks whether I want to load it as a single object or as multiple objects.  ...sometimes I don't.   How do I control that behavior when saving a project?  I'm using PS 2.4.2.

Best Answer by Lichtjaeger:

I assume the difference is if you open or import the file.

I'm going to add to this, If you get the message asking to load as single or multi-part you can just load it as a single, and once in Slicer you have the option of pushing the button to split to individual "Objects" or split to "Parts". (this is the easiest option to work with)

Conversely, if you bring the model in as individual "Objects" all the Objects will drop to the bed, but if you decide (Change your mind) later you can use the Merge feature, however you will have to position all the merged parts after doing so.

Just something to keep in mind.

@Swiss_Cheese.  Where is all this documented?   I came up empty searching both the KB and with DuckDuckGo for info on 3mf import vs. open project, and typing "merge" into the help search box on PS yields nothing helpful.  How do I do a merge?

Sorry, it's in my brain 🤪

Prusa must have it, documented somewhere!? I didn't learn it from them though, I learned by playing hard and repetitive use of the software. You know? 🤔 Hmm, whats this button do?

I think you should just keep playing and searching, but also come here and ask. We're we don't work for Prusa and several of us enjoy helping.

To Merge you would simply select two or more "Objects" then right click on one of the "Objects" and Select Merge from the resulting menu.  The "Objects" will be merged into a new "Object" named Merge in the object menu and the resulting "Parts" in the "Object" will be added in the order they were in before the merge.

Another type of importing that can be done is by Using "Replace with .stl"

This is done by selecting one of the "Parts" in an "Object" then right clicking on that "Part" and selecting "Replace with .stl" from the resulting menu, a dialogue will open and you are offered the option to navigate to a new (.stl, .obj, .3mf, .amf, .zip.amf or .xml) file to replace  the existing one. This allows you to avoid the merge process if you just need to add a "Part" or two to the "Object"

There are some other added benefits to this method as well but that's a lesson for  another day.

Hope this helps

@Swiss_Cheese:  That's a big help, thanks!   I never thnk to right click on things.

I do think you need to change your handle.  You're packed solid with good information, not full of holes at all!
