Multipart Models with support / what do I do wrong?
hi,
i was comming from Cura and several things are nice in PrusaSclicer
just there are some things I don't get done and in my research didn't found a solution
I have a 3mf-file containig 2 objects - the upper is the model and the lower is the support-material and should be printed as support
in the video the menu in PrusaSlicer is invisible somehow but I change the lower object type to support and then the upper object drops down to the build plate
in the end of the video I do the same in cura - how do I do this in PrusaSlicer?

If you merge the parts then you can raise one as long as the other remains on the bed. Select both, right click, merge. This is the same as breaking a multipart object to parts rather than objects.
This works much better if you have multiple heads configured in the printer settings (just use the default one) as the software is looking out for multiple parts.

With the caveat that I haven't touched Cura in ages:
I can't tell for sure from the video but it looks like you converted the lower part to a support enforcer at one point in Prusaslicer.
That's not the same as telling Cura that a part is a support.
A support enforcer in Prusaslicer is simply a shape that instructs the slicer to put supports under each surface the enforcer touches/overlaps with. It does not turn the shape itself into supports. So yeah, you can load a bunny shaped support enforcer for some reason but that won't create bunny shaped supports, instead any parts of your model that overlap with the bunny shape will be instructed to sprout supports.
I've never tried it or had a need for it myself, but I don't believe there's a way to tell Prusaslicer to directly convert a part into supports. But I'd be happy to stand corrected.

here I need 100% of the bottom to be supported and nothing should touch the plate

So the only way I can think of making the object levitate is to add a "helper part" to the side, e.g., a 10x10 x 0.2 mm box. Then you can move the main part up, with supports underneath.

I saw the argumentation "Why don't we simply allow lifting objects up?" but for me that's a strange reason to disable simple lifting..

i can't speak for Prusa. They outlined their reasoning in the article. But I'm sure that there would be a lot more complaints from stupid users who lifted their objects up and were surprised they didn't just hang on the air than there are users who would make good use of it.

Just mask the helper part with a negative volume and it will not be printed...You just need a very tiny bit for the slicer to have something in the first layer or you will get an error - for some reason Slicer does not like empty first layers (before support generation).
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

if we put to much focus on the stupid the world goes worse and worse 😉
I think Cura found the elegant sulution here as "drop to build plate" is active by default in settings and meanwhile I can switch this option for each single object

something like that was my first Idea, just adding a little stand with 0,01mm diameter so it doesnt get printed but holds the model above the ground - but this would also only work on this sample
(I like to have as much options as possible in my model instead of drawing helper-objects in the slicer)

by accident I think I did something like that now
does the green selected nipple hold the big model in place in my screenshot? 😀 😀
however it works for me now and support-blocker and support-enforcer also stay in place
