Manual color change not working for MK4

I've been doing manual color changes on my MK3 for years by setting the number of extruders to 2 and using the M600 gcode for tool changes. I am having issues doing this with the MK4.  The model slices with no errors, copies to the USB with no errors but when I select the file to print the heat bed light comes on and the display goes blank except it shows the time at the top of the screen.  The print never starts and eventually times out. I'm using Prusa Slicer 2.7.2 and 5.1.2 firmware on MK4.

Anyone have any ideas what might be going on.

This is a bug in the firmware.  Some discussion here: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/manual-multicolor/paged/6/#post-685870

A workaround is to use PrusaLink to start the print.

Or use OctoPrint, there files using "manual MMU" can be printed as well.

I've heard some good things about OctoPrint.  I've been considering trying it but I'm pretty invested the Prusa ecosystem at the moment because I have so many custom slicing profiles set up. Moving everything over to Octa probably would be a significant level of effort.

Are your profiles somehow saved in the Prusa software besides PrusaSlicer?  I am not familiar with this, because I have never used Prusa Link/Connect. I have used saving gcode from PrusaSlicer to a medium (SD card or USB) before. So what I describe just refers to a switch from saving to the USB drive/SD card to sending the files to OctoPrint via LAN or WiFi. Switching over to OctoPrint means just changing a target setting for the printer and creating a new "Physical Printer" with this target. You can use all your existing profiles that you have in PrusaSlicer. You just select the new "Physical Printer". It is practically the same as switching to another nozzle size in PrusaSlicer. Filament profiles are not affected. And you could create copies of existing "Physical Printers" under a new name with the new target being the only difference.

Interesting.  I'm intrigued now and considering trying it.
