Loosing structure after slicing

I have this mini I am trying to print, but when I slice the model the bat wings attached to his head lose most of their mass. Is there a setting to prevent this, maybe wall thickness or something? It doesn't look that thin in the model.

Those parts are thinner than the extrusion width and so are not sliced.

There are a few things you can do.

You can set a positive x/y compensation value, something like 0.1mm.  This will grow each layer by the same amount in x/y but not effect z.  Its ok for artistic stuff where size isn't that important but not great for parts that have to fit together.

You can try turning on detect thin walls.  This sometimes helps but can cause other problems so check your slice preview carefully if used.

You can try adjusting the extrusion width.  For a default 0.4mm nozzle the extrusion width is usually set to 0.45 in the default prusa profiles.  You can go down to 0.4 to match the nozzle but printing less than the nozzle doesnt generally work out to well in terms of quality, due to you know physics lol.

You can use a combination of the above methods too.

Finally you can swap the nozzle to a smaller one like 0.25, load in the profile for the 0.25 nozzle and print with that as that will allow you greater detail at the expense of much greater print times.  That usually works and people who print mini's lots will often have a 0.25mm nozzle around.  Well actually they will generally use a resin printer as they are much more suited to the small size and greater detail of mini's but hey 🙂

@neophyl

Thanks! I am using a .25 nozzle already, my minis have been coming out really well! I just noticed this one before I printed thankfully. I will give the wall and xy compensation a shot, thanks!

setting xy to .1 seems to have fixed it, thanks!!

If you are already using a .25 nozzle and print profile then try a smaller xy value. 0.1 is generally a good starting point with 0.4 but with the smaller nozzle it’s probably worth trying different values. Don’t want to effect the details too much.
