hi,

I printed a one-hand bottle opener once and it failed because of the internal perimeters from either side that were touching separated due to high stress.

there are now a few things to mitigate this:

  • increase nozzle temp. / reduce print fan speed for this area to help perimeter adhesion.
  • perhaps use thin perimeters and 100% infill.
  • modify the model

here is another idea:

alternate layers with thin (1-2) perimeter and 100% infill and ones with thick perimeters (no room left for infill)

this would imho greatly improve the overall rigidity of the part. just like sheets of wood that are glued together orthogonaly layer after layer creating a super strong composite material. 

I guess I could alter each layer in Prusa Slicer by hand bot this sounds like a cumbersome endeavor.

is this the right place to request a feature?

In PrusaSlicer, Print Settings->Infill->Advanced->Solid infill every X layers will do essentially what you're describing. I don't think that will add a lot of strength though. Have you tried adding a couple of perimeters at the grip?

Some slicers support adding an extra perimeter every few layers to give infill more grip with the perimeter walls.

Do make sure you're not simply under-extruding a bit on the walls. You might want to play around with perimeter extrusion widths. Tuning Linear Advance can also help make walls more consistent. I'd bump temps, up the extrusion multiplier slightly, and slow down perimeter print speeds to give everything time to bond. If using cooling, reduce it for the grip layers.

Sounds like Super Slicers alternating perimeters function.  With that if you set for example 3 perimeters and enable the extra perimeters on alternating layers it uses 3/4/3/4 etc as it goes up.  This has the possible added benefit of tying in the infill to the walls better I think.  Needs someone like Steffan from CNC kitchen to do some tests to see if it does give any benefit with some real world test results though but you would think it would help.

Its one of my favorite things about Susie (Super Slicer), I use it all the time.

To answer the original question though, no official feature requests should be made over on the Prusa Slicer github page https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc  

Posted there they will be seen by the devs and given an issue number/tracked.  Please do make sure you do a search first though of both open AND closed issues to see if the same request has already been made.  Its likely there's something in there among the 1700 open issues.

If you want to try the feature first then Super Slicer can be had from https://github.com/supermerill/SuperSlicer/releases/tag/2.2.53.4   Its based on Prusa Slicer so will be mostly familiar to existing users of PS.  Its currently based on the PS2.2 though as the developer is waiting on a full release of PS2.3 before he does the work of merging his changes to the PS code base.
