How would I pause, lift head and restart with G code?

Hello.

I have been reading a number of posts about this.
How would I pause a print at a specific time, lift the printer head, then lower it back down and continue printing?
Can I do this so I can unpause the printing process with the only button/knob that is available on Ender 3?

I see that people do this so they can insert metal parts into their prints.

I use the M0 S2 command to pause, yet how do I lift and lower the head by a specific height?
The head gets in the way of what I want to do.

Thank you.

In the preview view a pause command (M601) can be inserted at specific layer height/estimated time.
Here it is also possible to insert user defined g-codes to lift/lower extruder and using PrusaSlicer placeholders for layer_height, layer_num and layer_z to get the current z position.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Of course all that does rather depend on if the printers firmware actually supports any of that.  Older Ender 3 firmware doesnt/Didnt have support for colour change (M600) so you would need to make sure the firmware had it.

While you can make sure gcode is included in the sliced file to pause, and lift up etc, that wont make it resume and go back down.

All the commands do is instruct the printer, its the PRINTER firmware that does the resume on control button press.  Its far far better to load new printer firmware that can handle it and then just use a single M600 colour change command from the slicer.
