How to Reorder Extruder Assignments for a Painted Multi-Material 3MF Model?

Hi everyone,

I’m working with a multi-material model that I downloaded as a .3MF file. It has one part with multi-material painting already applied. When I load it into PrusaSlicer, all the colors are mapped to extruders, but the order doesn’t match the colors I already have loaded in my MMU3.

For example:

  • The base color in the model (orange) is mapped to Extruder 1,
  • But in my printer, that color filament is currently loaded into Extruder 5.

Since I’d rather not physically swap my filament spools every time I download a painted file, I’m wondering:
Is there a way in PrusaSlicer to remap or reorder extruder assignments for already painted regions in a single-part 3MF file?

Can I change which extruder each painted color corresponds to without repainting the model from scratch?

I tried exploring the Multimaterial Painting tool and the filament dropdowns, but I couldn’t find an option to reorder or remap colors once they’re painted onto the part.

Any advice, workarounds, or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!
