How to print????

Hi,

I finally got my mini. I connected the printer using the micro USB port and installed the PrusaSlicer (with my old printer I used Cura). But I can not find the print button/command. 😀

While searching I found some strange messages from some time ago about dropping the print functionality (????) but I assume that this can not be the case. Would be very strange.

What am I doing wrong here?

No you can not print from the current version of Prusa Slicer.  The did remove the serial connection.

You can either save the gcode to a disk or other device or, for example, send it to an Octoprint server and select whether printing should start or not.

Statt zu klagen, dass wir nicht alles haben, was wir wollen, sollten wir lieber dankbar sein, dass wir nicht alles bekommen, was wir verdienen.

Yeah, now clear to me, disappointing though. It's like M$ says "Word is generating Postscript files, you should see yourself how to get them to your printer". The Prusa community seems to be fine with this.

But anyway, I installed Repetier Server for it next to Prusa Slicer. I'll see if this setup has any advantages over Cura which prints of course out of the box.

RE: How to print????

Yeah most of us are fine with this. For a few reasons really.
If printing directly via a cable if there is any interruption to the cable for the slightest of reasons then the mk3 will reset and you lose your print anyway.
A lot are using a rpi and using octoprint in the use case of hit print and send to printer.
Others are using something like a flash air sd card which allows wireless transfer of files to the machine anyway, sort of a halfway house.

Besides your analogy is flawed. Word doesn’t send the files to your printer directly, it sends them the the operating systems print queue, it’s that which deals with actually spooling them out to the printer. That way Word can get on with other things.
I think you will find that Cura will include a component that does that. Older versions of Slicer PE used to also have a print queue facility. When they changed the underlying code for the PS rebuild it was removed. I think the plan was to rewrite a replacement but in the meantime other print queue applications like repetier already exist. There have only been a few requests for one so I guess it’s just not a high priority, especially when the resource is being spent on improving the actual slicer.

Yep, after giving it some thought (and working for a while now) I agree. There are better things to work on. Once someone has some sort of workflow setup with other components in the mix things are fine of course. And yes, I was a bit simplistic with my Word example 😀

That said, there is room for improvement on the software side for Prusa and that is a good thing. It means that they can keep growing.
