how to move print head away from the print on color/extruder change
Hi all,
I’m working on a multicolor print with a single extruder, and I’ve hit a bit of a snag. When one color finishes, and it's time to swap colors, the extruder just hangs above the print. Filament keeps dripping onto the print, leaving blobs that ruin the final result. I was thinking it might help to add a command to retract some filament and move the extruder away from the print while I load the new color.
Does anyone have ideas on the best way to set this up? Any tips would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
RE: how to move print head away from the print on color/extruder change
do you have a non prusa printer?
I have never had that issue with a Genuine prusa printer
the firmware in the prusa printers has instructions to move the build plate backwards, and to move the extruder to the right hand side of the X axis, and to move it upwards in preparation for filament change
if you look at the link below, there are a number of optional commands that allow you to set X,Y,Z position, and other factors that may make filament change easier for yourself,
use the add Custom Gcode option instead of the colourchange option, and add the commands you require, after the M600 command.
