Hole for heat set insert

I'm looking for help with how to prepare a print in Prusaslicer for a heat set insert. I've created separate posts for the inserts and added them as a modifier to my main part in Prusaslicer, but they always end up filled in, instead of having a hole in them for the insert. I suppose I could drill that out, but not exactly what I'm trying to do.This probably wasn't the best description, so I've attached a picture of the modifer I created, and a picture of the modifier in the main object - you can see the internal of the modifier is filled in by the main objects infill..

Thanks!!Joel

Are you sure you added those as negative volume modifiers to the part?

A negative modifier makes the inverse of what I'm trying to add.

I'm trying to basically add this to the internal structure of a sealed object:

If I'm understanding correctly, I'm thinking you need this.

Not this.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope this helps.

Uh sorry for not being precise, I thought you added cylinders as negative volume as Snuffleupagus described it, not the actual inset model in any form. The cylinders should be just a bit smaller in diameter than the insets so that when inserted it will melt the surroundings.

AFAIR the hole can be 0.5mm or more longer than the inset to allow to the melted plastic gather there.

I suggest using search function on the forums, I remember some topics about how to do it from the beginning to the end.

If you are adding support material and a hole, it takes 2 additions.   Add the support cylinder, then add another negative cylinder.  The negatives are ordered at the bottom of the merged part and are applied last.    Size of the hole is dependent on the insert.  My 3mm nut inserts require a 4mm hole.   Make sure the hole is deep enough to handle the excess screw length.

Thank you for all your replies, I think vhubbard has my solution.  It's a bit more work than I thought it would be, but seems to work:
