My guess is that it's a wonky .stl file.

Let me finish up a few things and I'll download it and see what I get.

Ok, I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that Cura appears to slice it successfully, at least the preview looks like it should print as expected.  Cura is often more forgiving on corrupt .stl files than PS is.

The bad news is that the .stl file is most definitely corrupt.  Using the 'fix it' function of PS renders the same results.  Using the whole menu of 'fix it' options in FreeCad makes it worse.

I'm trying a process that I've used to fix many (but not all by any means) corrupt .stl files in FreeCAD, and it may or may not work.  It's been spinning for maybe 10 minutes on another machine trying to convert the mesh to a shape.  I've had good luck with many bad .stl files converting the mesh to a shape, refining the shape, converting to a solid, and then re-exporting into a mesh.  I've had a few, however, that either never complete the conversion processes in a reasonable time, or produce equally bad or worse meshes when re-exported.  I'll let it run for a while and see what it does.

My suggestion for the quickest fix is to download Cura if you don't have it and slice it with that.

You can also try any of many 'fix it' functions in the various 3d programs to see if any of them will fix it.

More hopefully good news.

Try the attached .stl file within the .zip file.  The procedure I mentioned appears to have worked, although it took some time.  On my PS it looks like it should print as expected.

Wow, thanks very much, I wouldn't have had clue how to fix that.

Now slices correctly. 

I'll gratefully take your advice and try Cura as well, see if I can replicate the fix myself, at least I'll have an idea what to do next time.

Here is the trick that fixed this one.

1. Import into FreeCad, use the Part workbench.

2. Convert mesh to shape.  It takes a while.

3. Re-export as .stl.

I will often continue with Refine Shape and Convert To Solid, but the first one fixed it.
