Gcode import / printing models
Hey all,
When I download files from Prusa Prints... I see Gcode settings and the STL files... Do you all normally import others settings AND the STL and print? I am wondering what the proper workflow should be... I assume if they have the same printer model the settings should be nearly the same and safe to try but of course a ton of variables sometimes...
Thanks!
RE: Gcode import / printing models
Personally I never just print anyone else's gcode, unless I really really trust them. Even if they have the same printer. While the chances are small it is possible to cause damage to a printer through malformed gcode. Never know if someone is malicious.
While the gcode idea sounds good as it takes away any slicing variables you can get the same gcode by slicing a saved project file anyway if you really want the gcode.
I will open someone else's project file though. For one thing that preserves all the part placements, modifiers etc that are in use. I will routinely then just change the target printer to my own and also the filament profile used to one tweaked for my printer (as I have a steel nozzle x and so run slightly hotter filament temps). I will then look through the settings they are using for Print and make my own decisions on if I need to modify any of those too.
Even here on the forum we ask for saved, zipped project files as its the only way to properly debug peoples problems and is quite safe as long as you remember to select your own printer if you decide to print a project yourself.
