Floating start of bridge
I recently tested my first prinst with ASA and had very poor result iwth bridged parts of the model. To find best settings, I went for a a bridging stress test run with various parameters for bridge speed and fan settings to find a best setup. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:476845
Some prints were better than other but I kept having at least one, loosely hanging string of filament from the very first bridging pass... then checking the generated gcode I discovered that PS actually does start the bridge in the middle of teh gap for some reason, so the filament has nowehre to attach to when bridge starts...
often it starts in teh open space, going long way to the other end resulting in long dangling string below bridge..
or ist starts close to perimeter in the space resulting in short loose string dangling below
or starting around teh middle...
I did try enabling / disabling thick bridges but no change in the produced gcode... briging starts form psition it ha snothing to attach to....
Any ideas what setting to check or what may be causing this??
RE: Floating start of bridge
Yes. Its a software bug. Been reported on github several times. Not fixed as yet. Arachne does this more than Classic so you might want to switch to Classic and see what you get. Also if its starting in the middle check your seam settings. Remember you can always paint a seam to force it where you want it to start/stop too.
RE: Floating start of bridge
Tried classic before without noticing any change... this model has multiple bridges of various lengths and inspecting these at their levels, each bridge starts at slightly different position but always just losely "in the air"... thought I've messed this up with some other settings and after several unsuccesfull attempts itwas even more frustrating to try slicing it in Cura and she got it right there on first try... though I only us PS really, never noticed this before untlil got myself on this hunt for perfect bridge, in notably difficult ASA.
But you got me to focus on seam position which DOES make a big difference. I had "Rear" seams set up before, but going for nearest the result has been much better, first 6 bridges start spot on from a perimeter.. then it started to drift away... so tried "random" and BINGO! Classic/Arachne makes no difference, the seam position does! with Random seams the bridge starts correctly from a perimeter wall EVERY SINGLE TIME...
Thanks mate, you pointed me in the right direction! Never thought this could be somehow coming from seam positon!
