Finding center point

Hi,

I downloaded some stl's of various gears.  The models have no shaft holes.

I'm not confident with my skill with the Measure tool.  Is there a shortcut to find the center of a regular object so I can accurately place a center hole?

If I circumscribed the gear precisely with a negative volume cylinder, then shrank the cylinder to my hole size, would it then be centered?

Thanks

That would work.  Easier to import them into your preferred CAD centred and cut the socket on the same centre.

Probably easier still to generate from scratch, most CAD has gear calculation intrinsically or as a library/add on.

Cheerio,

Assuming the gears are cylindrical you can just add a negative volume and use the position fields on the right to center it by setting x and y to 0.

These may help.  One of my first designs.  These are for small objects and one day will get them up on Printables.  Small one handed centre finders.
