Feature Request: Maximum/Minimum Layer Height for Adaptive Variable Layer Height Function

I think an option to set limits on the adaptive layer height function would be useful. An example:

Adaptive Layer Height

  • Maximum Layer Height: 0.2 mm
  • Minimum Layer height:0.08 mm

The slicer would do its thing, but any layers rougher than 0.2 mm would be reduced to 0.2 mm. Likewise any layers finer than 0.08 would be changed to 0.08 mm.

Is there a problem with the current setup?

the defaults are 0.7mm Min and 0.25 Max, but you could set them to your preferred values.

@joantabb

There is some room for improvement.

The image on the left is when I set it to 0.07 minimum; the one on the right is the 0.1 minimum. Notice how changing the minimum affects the whole curve, not just the fine parts.

Also, the maximum later height setting is also tied to the support layer height. What if I want the maximum layer height to be 0.2, but maximum support layer height to be 0.3?

In the MMU2, this is handled in a pretty inconvenient way. Each filament has the min/max layer height set separately. Maybe there's a use case I can't think of here.

It would be quite convenient to have an option in PrusaSlicer to be able to force the step size increment on the adaptive settings. From what I understand, the printer accuracy is much better when using step heights that are a multiple of 0.04mm (due to stepper angles and threaded rods).

While some printers work better with 'magic numbers' like 0.04mm layer divisions that's not the case with the Prusa Mk3.  Its capable of doing 0.01 steps in layer height without problem.

However a change to force the layer height on variable to use discrete steps makes sense.  I guess thats why a feature request has already been opened on github for just that.

https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/202 and more recently https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/5861

Apologies if you were the one who opened the github issue, unfortunately there is no way to tell unless someone uses the same name on both sites.
