enforce increased number of perimeters for thin walled geometry
Hi there,
i have a geometry file for a thin walled geometry (0.6mm). With my 0.6mm nozzle this prints one perimeter, which is not really stable.
Is it possible to enforcce the slicer to print with 2 perimeters - so with more wall thickness than is defined by the geometry file?
Or would it be necessary to adapt the geometry file, which would only be possible, if the original CAD file would be available.
Thanks for help!
Nils.
Thin wall geometries don't really stabilise until at least five extrusions thick. Your 0.6 nozzle has a default extrusion width of 0.65mm so you are already underextruding. There are some magic numbers for two (1.16mm) and four (2.27mm) thickness walls; above about 2.8mm the slicer will adapt.
There are some tweaks possible with XY Size Compensation, thin wall detection and extrusion (Advanced settings) but your geometry doesn't leave enough room for these to have significant effect.
If you cannot go back to the CAD your best bet is to fit a much smaller nozzle.

RE: enforce increased number of perimeters for thin walled geometry
Hi Diem,
yes, the thickness in the geoemetry is too thin, you are right. Therefore I was searching for a way to increase the wallthickness in the slicer, without touching the geometry itself (because i do not have the original CAD file).
I tried with your hint: XY Size Compensation on the advanced page seems to be doing exactly, what I was searching for.
Many Thanks!

I have also found that if wall thickness is directly divisible by print width, many whiskers and similar problems from under/over extrusion disappear.
Example print width .42 mm, wall thicknes of .82, 1.26, 1.68, or 2.1 mm work best.
The tradeoff is that might leave you with a weak part.
