Dreaded Bridge Infill

Hi all,

Prusa Slicer 2.7.1 adds a layer of "Bridge Infill" at layer 65 in a model that should be hollow.  It appears that this is a common issue.  I have tried changing a variety of things - but nothing seems to help.  No errors are reported and nothing special seems to be happening at that layer.  It's only at layer 65.  Otherwise everything slices fine.  It's a four part multi-material model for Prusa XL.  If I import the models separately and slice them individually they all slice as expected.  So - it's something about having them altogether at once.  I've attached screenshots of the hollow space below 65, and then you can see the unnecessary Bridge Infill.  The project file is too large to attach.

Thanks for any help!

.

Without the project file and the models to examine then help is likely to be thin on the ground.  Not enough info to work with.  Dont forget if you want to attach anything to the forum you will need to ZIP it up first.

Thanks @neophy1 - TLDR - issue resolved but still some issues with complex models and STEP files in Prusa Slicer.

It looks like the size of the project file size/complexity was related to the problem.  I usually export from Fusion 360 with custom very high detail settings - which is why the project file was too large - and slicing took forever - and (maybe) the super detailed models were related to the bridge infill.  I re-exported everything at Fusion 360's standard "High" setting and everything sliced fine.

Interestingly, I also tried out the new support for STEP files.  They didn't have the same bridge infill problem.  But - Prusa Slicer didn't like a different part of the model in that case - which was that chamfers around small holes showed up as errors (which are at a different layer height than the bridge infill was and weren't reported as an error for the STL files).  So - maybe there's a little more work to do for STEP file support.

Bambu Studio did not report an error in the STEP files - but of course the model is too large for a Bambu anyway.

Thanks!

Interesting!  That wasn't the issue on the STEP file though.  They were just run of the mill chamfers on a 6.4mm hole.  It may have been related to layer thickness.  It's a multi material model.  At the holes there are two of the models that are only a couple layers thick.  I didn't have the bottom of the chamfer perfectly lined up with the layer thickness.  That may have created an edge too sharp to resolve.  Weird that the STL file worked and Bambu Studio didn't report an error.
