Drawing changes when imported into slicer

Hi,

I'm going to try my best to explain what is happening but it's really difficult to put into words - Hopefully, you guys can understand.

When we sometimes import a drawing that was made in Autodesk inventor into the Prusaslicer the round objects get small flat edges all around which changes the shape to not completely round anymore. It only happens sometimes and we can not figure out why this happens - Once I have tried just exporting the file again out of Autodesk and when I imported the file into the slicer the problem was fixed .... but when I tried it with another part that had the same problem it didn't want to work and it kept that flat edges...

Have anyone experienced this problem before?

Thanks in advance.

Its difficult to understand your problem from the description.  Do you mean you are losing resolution on your export from autodesk ?  for example are smooth cylinders becoming faceted ?

You could post pictures of what the object in autodesk looks like and what it looks like when opened in PS.  You could also save your prusa slicer project (File>save project as) which will create a 3mf file.  That 3mf file will contain the objects on your build plate along with all the settings you are using to slice.  Irt gives us a snapshot that allows us to load and see exactly what you are working with.  However you MUST zip up the 3mf file or the forum will not allow it to be attached.  Same with pretty much any file posted here except pictures.

Export resolution is a function of the design software and where those settings are depend on the software used.  I don't have autodesk so cant help with that but lets identify the exact problem first and then see if google has a suitable answer once the question can be more narrowly defined.

When a round object suddenly has flat edges, this usually points to a data export with insufficient resolution. Remember that STL files are just lists of triangles. The higher the number of triangles that define an external surface, the "rounder" it looks. Usually CAD software allows you to specify a resolution as part of the export process.

Formerly known on this forum as @fuchsr -- until all hell broke loose with the forum software...
