Difference in slicing - 2.5.2 vs 2.6.0 (2.6.1)

I would really appreciated any help with the issue that I'm currently facing. I'm slicing a logo with 2.6.1 and the output looks different from 2.5.2. I had similar issue with 2.6.0 so I put off updating the software. As you can see in the attached video clips of both 2.5.2 and 2.6.1, the text area where the color change occurs is treated as top layer infill in 2.5.2 but in 2.6.1 it is treated as internal infill. Because of this, the print looks much smoother in 2.5.2 compared to 2.6.x versions. I'm using the default 0.15mm quality profile in both and did not make any change to the print settings.

Is there a way to make 2.6.1 slicing looks similar to 2.5.2?

What you're seeing is standard behavior in 2.6, to improve the connection of the letters to the base. See https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/avoiding-solid-topfill-under-pegs-on-a-slab/ for more information. You may be able to work around it by making the letters separate parts or maybe using some modifier meshes but I don't know of any setting in PS that would revert back to the behavior in 2.5.2

To save your project as a .3mf file

Files > Save Project as

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.

Embedding videos is broken, and after 10mon you can not edit pots any more. Please provide direct urls to the videos you might embedded in the first post, if you uploaded them to forums they should be in he uploaded media/gallery.

You are using gyroid fill, not really suitable here, if strength is not an issue you might do better with lightening fill.

I tried changing infill pattern but the result is the same, the slicing doesn't look similar to that of 2.5.2

And to add to the above, I changed the infill to 100% but still 2.6.1 adds perimeter around the text area and treats it as an infill area but 2.5.2 is smooth as silk.

Why are you concerned about the internal slice?  I assumed you were trying to get a smooth top surface..?

I had the similar issue when two models were intersecting, maybe this could help you somehow?

My model was actually created from two models which were not merged - one model on top was sunken in to the model on the bottom. In general it was a tube on top of the flat disc.

As you can see in the image above there is a small circle on the bottom - this is the smaller model within the bigger model, and we can see edges of intersection.

The effect was that slicing tool was creating slicing for first model and then applied slicing of the second model. In the effect it was pretty ugly and increased print time noticeably, not to mention of printer trying to print filament in the same place twice so it was scooping fragments of the filament that were already laid down just moments earlier.

To fix it I had to get back to the source materials and in the program I used I selected both models and applied merge/group, which results in one single model:

In above image there is no sign of the second model, and this sliced nicely.

Your model in .3mf even exported does not show such issue ( but Tincercad may be limited in that case), but sometimes there may be something inside that it cannot be seen properly by certain tools - the model looks okay, but in fact certain things are not rendered bup pop out when slicing.

I suggest getting back to the source models and edit them by merging and then slicing it.
Or cut it in half and print both separately and glue them.

Yes, looking for a smooth top. if the model is smaller then the lines are too visible where it intersect with the perimeter of the text, in 2.5.2 the text layer does not show up until the actual color change occurs, so the top layer of the trim/bottom model is smooth as the layer lines printed from one end to another. but, it is not the case in 2.6.1.

Here is the screenshot at the layer heigh of 3.05 but the actual color change happens in 3.20. As you can see, 2.5.2 is end to end "Top Solid Infill" at this height but in 2.6.1 the slicer prints a "Top Solid Infill" for rest of the area and the text area as "Internal Infill". This is with 100% infill and both slicing the same object.

Thanks for the reference. It is exactly what I see as a difference between 2.6.x and 2.5.x. I really hope this is given as a choice/selection in the slicer settings rather than defaulting it to either of the approach. 

With that said, I believe 100% infill gives you much higher strength so I would assume it doesn't hurt to have "Top solid infill" in that scenario.

OK, simplest then is to revert to sanding and painting where you have complete control of the finish.

 

With that said, I believe 100% infill gives you much higher strength

No. It doesn't.  100% infill is almost always a mistake and makes a part more likely to shatter.

Thanks for your help. I think I'll stick to 2.5.2 for now. That way I don't have to do any manual post processing.
