Cross-Organic

Hi!
I really love the organic support function and the structures which are created with the Organic Supports.

I am not sure where to put this, so i place it here. Feel free to move the threat.

Organic structures have a lot of printing time required as soon as they reach the last levels before they reach to area where they need to support. I believe that could be done in a more organized way so the supports would be printable over just like when reaching the top of the infill.

My idea would be, to replace then round and oval structures with a cross through the respective axis.

This measure alone would reduce the required filament for structures by 36%. (Assuming a 2 perimeter cross, just as the current structure) A significant impact!

When reaching an overhang, because of the organized approach, an even better filament and printing time reduction could be achieved by organizing the crosses into "streets":

Were the next layer could be printed on top:

Currently this is achieved only many layers later:

Thank you for your time reading so far.

Is this stable enough for supports? Is this an old idea and not feasible?

Happy Printing,
Bob

RE: Cross-Organic

Hiya Bob.  I cant say I've seen this suggestion before.
However 🙂  this is a user to user forum.  Dev's rarely hang out here.  All feature requests, suggestions and bug reports need to be made over at the Prusa Slicer github repository.  Where they get an issue number and are tracked.  It is located here https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues

I don't know whether it would actually be useful - but it would definitely be worth testing.

Cheeri,
