Create hole in perimeter to access infill

I am wondering if it is possible to create a hole in the perimeter (or outer shell) of a part, to access the infill. For example i wish to print a part, and fill it with sand or expoy to add weight or stability. Currently I am drilling a hole, but I would prefer to have that access hole already in the printed part.

Best Answer by Walter Layher:

Then use a type modifier part and add settings to it, e.g. no top and bottom layers, no perimeters, zero infill. Then you can see the infill.

RE:

Right-click on your part in PrusaSlicer, in the context menu choose "Add negative volume". Choose the shape and size that you want and move it to the desired position. In the slicing preview you will be able to see the result.

That gives not the intended result. e.g:

The cylindical recess was created via negative volume.

What I try to achieve is something linke this (artists impression):

Im a bit late to this thread, but I can't get this to work to get holes into the infill from the sides. Instead of removing the walls, the slicer instead just places new walls along the places where the modifier cuts into the part.

This feels like a bug, but are there any ways to work around this?

Nope, that's the way its always done it.  You could open a bug issue on the PS github but it will get closed in all likelihood.  Same as many others that were opened.  I think theres still at least one open https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/3846

When you use a modifier what you are actually doing is splitting into 2 separate slicing objects.  At least as far as anything that effects perimeters (and also a bunch of other settings).  As far as PS is concerned its 2 different 'things' it is slicing.  So your original object which has perimeter count values above 1 still generates perimeters around the modifier.  Your modifier if the perimeters are set to 0 wont have any.

Its the same thing when you drop one over a hole to reinforce and add perimeters, you actually get perimeters from both which always throws people off as they end up with more than they expected.
