Change extruder assignment for multimaterial painted models

Hi,

I did not find any hint to that in this forum or the documentation:

Is there a way to reassign a color to a different extruder after I've painted my model in PrusaSlicer?
That would also be very handy if one imports a downloaded pre-painted single-part .3mf with a different color order.

BR, Thomas.

Bump

I'd love to see this as well. It would be much nicer to change the extruder rather than unload and reload every time I change a print.

I assume there was no answer because for most of us it's unavoidable routine.

You don't say which printer(s) you are using but for current Prusa machines you allocate the extruders at the start of the printing procedure.

The long term answer is to colour the model in CAD so the colour step in slicer becomes quick and easy, the paint function is only intended as a fallback for simple colouring of downloads for which the design files are unavailable.

Cheerio,

RE:

I am using a pair of mk4s with mmu3.

Since I have not a creative bone in my body and physical disabilities that make reaching the filaments a challenge, I was looking to software to save me. The ability to change the chosen (virtual) extruder would allow me to leave common colors in place and move the design around to accommodate.

It doesn't have to be a virtue to move spools around and reload the mmu when a few clicks might solve it.

But thank you for your contribution to the topic.

Read page 34 of the current MMU3 3D Printing Handbook/Manual V 1.02
