Altering Extrusion Rate

Have not been using a Prusa printer with the Prusa slicer yet, but am using a Flashforge printer and the RepRap/Sprinter firmware.

My new mini will be arriving in about a week.

Meanwhile I have been slicing the Guider prints perfectly in Prusa and they print better than Simplify. But my question is why when I insert a custom gcode (M221 S120) to increase extrusion rate at a certain layer, does this not work. I have inserted custom gcodes to change bed and nozzle temperatures and that works perfectly. 🙂

According to the reprap wiki page here https://reprap.org/wiki/G-code#M221:_Turn_on_AUX_V1.0.5 M221 is turn on Aux (whatever that is) and not a setting for speed. 

In Marlin M221 is to set flow percentage to combat over/under extrusion of a particular setup.

Yes I saw that it did that in Marlin, but if you have a look at this page for RepRap firmware ( https://reprap.org/wiki/RepRap_Firmware_G-Codes) you will see it is for extruder percentage for that firmware. :

If the code is contained in the gcode sent to your printer (confirmed by saving it and checking with any text editor) and the printer isn't handling it then that's something you would have to take up with your printers firmware supplier.  

Depending on how they have implemented it they may only support a subset of the available commands and even if they support a specific M/G code they may not support all of the available switches.  Prusa firmware does the same with Marlin.  It doesn't implement them all and it actually had deviations in some cases or extra Prusa Specific additions.

Notice how both of our links reference the same Reprap wiki site but there are 2 totally different meaning for M221 depending on versions.  Its entirely down to whoever has done the firmware.

Well to tell the truth, I doubt Flashforge firmware, which is probably proprietry, is at all exactly the same as RepRap/Sprinter, but I have no choice but to use it, as Flashforge firmware is not supported by Prusa Slicer.

I contacted the Prusa Slicer developers about this and their response was:

I asked the PS Developers about your printer and I was told that we only add the profiles of printers we get from the community and with Flashforge, there is a problem that it does not use Gcodes but X3G format which our Slicer does not support. Cura is using X3G converter but our PS does not have it and we might eventually add it but it is currently not in plan.

Also when looking at that RepRap gcode page this reference I copied does confirm that the M221 command to turn on an Auxillary is not supported.:

M221: Turn on AUX V1.0.5

but no way I know of to prove that. The RepRap/Sprinter firmware used in Prusa Slicer does not mention a version number.

So sounds like we are no better off for knowing the solution anyhow, but thanks for your input.

The only thing I noticed with this type of gcode is that it generally references an extruder description. IE: M104 S100 T0, even tho I only have one extruder. I will try M221 S120 T0, tomorrow and see if that makes any difference.

It sounds like you need to raise this on a forum for Flashforge printers.  This forum is for Prusa printers and their associated software, hardware, and firmware.  The problem you seem to be having is because of the firmware in your Flashforge and this is not the best place to be asking for help with that.  For example this one: https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/flashforge/forums/general

Yes I agree with your comment, but since I am referencing the Prusa slicer, there should be some relevance on this forum, if someone else is using a Flashforge printer on that slicer. I doubt there will be anyone on the Flashforge forum using Prusa slicer, but I will certainly check that possibility out.

The responsibility of the slicer ends at "is it in the gcode" ... beyond that, not getting help in the other non-Prusa forums is also something folk here can't help with.
