Adding HIPS filament profile?
I'm trying to create a HIPS profile for PrusaSlicer. I looked for one in the filament drop-down, but none of those had HIPS indicator. I looked around the net for one, but it appears that there is no such thing as a repository for Prusa slicer filament settings. Is that right? It sounds like an oversight. Its there an issue with creating one that I'm unaware of?
So, failing to find a pre-created filament setting for HIPS, I decided to create my own. I started by saving the current PLA setting as a new setting so I could change the various characteristics. I tried to save it as "Generic HIPS", but PrusaSlicer told me that I "Cannot overwrite a system profile".
This suggests to me that there are a bunch of profiles sitting somewhere that I can't see, and don't have access to. Can someone illuminate me?
RE: Adding HIPS filament profile?
Filament profiles are limited by the printer you have selected (and can also be limited by the print profile too under certain conditions). So yes there will be some HIPS profile for some printer somewhere hence the system profile. What that printer will be is anyone's guess but its likely to be one of the basic prusa printers.
Scratch that, I've just run the wizard again to looks through the filaments and there's even a Generic HIPS so why you cant find one to install I don't know. You did install the HIPS profile when you ran through the initial configuration wizard didn't you ? Only filaments you install will have even a chance of being in the dropdown, and then only if that profile is marked as compatible with the selected printer.
RE: Adding HIPS filament profile?
Thanks. I was configuring a lot of other things when I installed PrusaSlicer, and just took defaults when going through the configuration assistant. I didn't realize you had to go through the assistant a second time to change which filament profiles are available. It's surprising that the names of the profiles are stored somewhere even when the materials aren't displayed.
RE: Adding HIPS filament profile?
They specifically added checks in for that with the name awhile back as there were issues in the past with duplicate profile names which messed up the install.
If creating your own profiles its always best to give them distinct names that wont ever clash with any possible system ones. sometimes I will add a date code to the end like 20250316 for example. Which is useful in reminding me when I created it also.
