Add Brim to specific sections only?

Is there any way to limit, where the brim will be printed?

I have a print, where i'd limit the brim to specific sections only, to allow for easier brim removal afterwards.

Is this possible? Tried playing around with "Add modifiers", etc. but couldn't find any setting

Nope.  There isnt.  The usual work around is to use a modifier to do add part, and create a 0.2mm high disc to create a mouse ear and place them where you want the extra. Works as a brim pretty much.

It could be done easily in the early releases of 2.4 Alfa's and Beta's since the RC realeases the work around was broken, and while I did find a way to make it work each time, it's far from convenient, so I refrain from showing the method, unless the user is extremely well versed using slicer.

It's still there, kinda. I'm sure they will mess slicer up more as they are pushing the releases out much to quickly trying to get to 2.5, which I'm guessing will be a mess.

Good Luck

I didn't realize at the time I posted this that neophyl had mentioned a different way to do this, you should just use his way.

Sorry I'll try and pay more attention.

Swiss's way is elegant and works great (when software updates don't break the workaround), but the ocd part of me uses language a bit different.

If you haven't already figured it out, you can use invisible (ie objects set not to have any perimeters or infill) as placeholders to generate the brim around.  Technically that is not generating brim on part of an object though 🙂  That's the OCD part of me poking through.

I do agree that from a practical standpoint it works out to the same thing.  Which I guess is what counts.

RE:

When trying the method with 0 perimeters or infill, the Slicer throws an error: "There is an object with no extrusions in the first layer. Object name: Shape-Cylinder" and PrusaSlicer consequently refuses to generate the G-code.

Then again, I added the object and then tried to use an invisible Shape, to prevent the brim from showing up in undesirable places. Is this the wrong approach?

@teachingthedetails as you're having a problem removing the brim, there is an option "brim separation gap"

To0 late to edit. Or perhaps try playing with elephants foot compensation.

To do this now you will need to use slicer 2.4.0 final.

Found a workable solution:

There's an "outer brim only" option. So I ended up adding 1 layer high objects until the section which was supposed to print without brim was fully enclosed.

Not sure, why I couldn't get the other advises to work. Tried the swiss_cheese advice on PrusaSlicer 2.4, but it would still give an error.

Might stick with the "outer brim only" method for now.

I also tried the Swisscheese method and got an error. I'm glad you found something that works.

RE: Add Brim to specific sections only?

It's not as simple as neophyl Made it sound, it's an advanced technique. However once you know how it's easy 😉.

I prepared a file with some pre-made brims that can be used over and over, I wanted to give some instruction on how to use them.

It's Christmas eve here, I'm going to try to post today but if I get to warped up in Christmas todo's It may have to wait.

Regards & Merry Christmas

@teachingthedetails & @sylviatrilling

I don't want you to think I've just been being a dick, and wasting time showing off, I've been working on a stable way to bring selective brim's to the community, for several months now. Unfortunately based on the evolution of Slicer 2.4 & the state of the forums (deleting all my files) it's been made difficult. I understand Prusa not caring or taking into account the actions of a single user, however it sure would have been nice to know all the files were going to be deleted, (it's actually changed my mind about the level of help I'm willing to offer the community) but I am and have been working on this project and will be posting it soon for use by community members in spite of the hindrance of the company's (Prusa's) goals.

I've spent days reworking the files so they will at least work with Window's, I haven't been able to test on other operating systems this go around.

Also I've been making tutorials for special Support's (for real no BS) in PrusaSlicer nothing you have regular access to even in 2.4.0, and several other Special things as well, and some tutorials on understanding the coordinate system, which quite frankly is an f'ing Mess, but can be worked around.

You might think that basic things like the coordinate system and remembering the position set in the sidebar menu would be on the top of the to do list, but apparently not it's been completely wacked for a long time now.

Don't waste your time on GitHub unless you have a crew of folks ready to back your request, it's gonna be stupid crap like fuzzy skins & displacement that you get, before you see improved basic functionality.

For the serious users, suck it up and learn the work around's, or move to a different slicer.

Good Luck, Ill try to post the brim Tools soon.

Lol, @Swiss_cheese, you have a way of being a dick that is quite endearing. Keep up the good work. I don't expect I will ever need partial brims, I just got the itch to solve the puzzle and I sometimes obsess over solving puzzles but I am over it now. Happy New Year.
