RE: Update...(Kind of)
It might be useful to have one material in the exterior and another material on the interior and specifically when it comes to not wanting to refinish it, you might not want to use carbon fiber on the outside. Not really sure if that would cause more or less drag.
In theory, you could. Have to be careful with material choice since dissimilar polymers have a tendency not to want to stick to each other (exception is PEI). ABS/ASA would work for the outer shell and PC for the inner shell. You can then smooth it with acetone since PC is resistant (it will craze if you get carried away though). It guess it would have to be ASA since the rocket gets exposed to a lot of UV.
Hmmm... I might try this. Interesting idea. I expect it would be somewhat similar to fiberglass over phenolic tubing.
I imagine it might also be interesting to experiment with mechanically pre-interlocked parts for dissimilar materials that otherwise don't stick together well, though of course you'd still need to have at least enough adhesion for the first few layers to stay in place if both materials weren't extending all the way to the printbed.
RE:
Note that those who ordered FE version are more or less "beta testers", or with other words "guinea pigs" and that alone is enough to lower the initial price of those kits...
I hope that truth is not ever worse: that FE users are "alpha testers" and we are beta ones...
RE: Update...(Kind of)
Someone give me a model rocket body design and I'll ABS the exterior and ASA-CF the interior...

20x50mm test object. PC inside, ASA outside. 0.4mm nozzle with 0.2mm layer lines. Print took 2 hrs! INDX will be faster but not sure if I can print these materials without a carefully heated chamber. I smoothed it (actually way over-smoothed it) with ethyl acetate. Can cut the print time in half if I use a 0.6mm nozzle and print at a 45° angle. Anyway, we are waaaayyy off topic so will end it here. Anyway, I'll write a Printables article on this. I think this technique has a lot of utility in general.
RE: Update...(Kind of)
Welcome to the Hobby rocket forum 😅
Joking aside that smoothing you've done looks ace. With some experimenting I reckon you could get a smoothing system dialed in pretty quickly. Best if luck with the Printables article, links when it's finished please 😊

Same techniques will apply to the INDX so I suppose it's relevant. I left it in the smoothing jar overnight. It should have been only 1-2 hrs max and not 8.
RE: Update...(Kind of)
Yeah, acetone smoothing is old and great technique. Sadly it's not for detailed prints, since it destroys them. And it doesn't work on pla, petg...
RE: Update...(Kind of)
anyone got any new (discord?) info after the last email from Bondtech on unspecified delay for an unspecified problem?

I’m still dipping in and out. It’s been very quiet since the email. The below was just sent this morning. Sums up all the info really.
last week Olaf said something like, priority 1 was making sure they got the best possible product out the door to customers. Priority 2 was to do it ASAP

RE: Update...(Kind of)
indeed, and I really do not appreciate this kind of communication (or lack thereof)...

RE: Update...(Kind of)
I wouldn't mind if they sweetened the deal a bit and gave founders the good front panel for the inconvenience.
It does seem a bit amateurish though, the comms and way it has been handled, and the fact that their only active channel to customers is the hellscape of Discord.
RE: Update...(Kind of)
I'd like that, on the other hand, if they keep pushing nback the FE shipping, they can directly give us the retail version components 😀
... plus the t-shirt of course 😀 ... on that subject I still hope that Bondtech is pulling a practical joke and they will ship a different design than the "oops my 5 yrs old got hold of my pencils and a white t-shirt" version we have seen sofar...

hellscape of Discord.
🤣It's clear in Olaf's replies that they are getting shorter and more curt. I think there is a clear frustration coming through. On discord there is a mix of sycophants defending them, many individuals just asking for info in a respectful way and then there are the ones that are curt themselves and calling out the situation. I can imagine the pressure on the Bondtech side is large, both from customers and now also Prusa.
This gives Prusa more time to better implement their end at least.

we don't even know what the issue is, it could be very well be a Prusa problem but since the FE is shipped by Bondtech they need to own it no matter what...

From what can be teased at Discord (which is neither fun nor easy), whatever it is it's also affecting the dev units (if this is correct). Assuming this would imply hardware. At this point, everything is arm chair guessing until it ships. I don't expect to receive mine until sometime in June. If it's earlier, then great.
At this point the only thing that would piss me off is the Prusa retail kits shipping same time as the Founder's Edition kits.
RE: Update...(Kind of)
That would be sort of silly, wouldn't it?

RE: Update...(Kind of)
Honestly, though it wouldn't surprise me if that happened. Or if there is only a 1-2 week gap. Bondtech are shipping the Founder's Edition and Prusa are shipping retail. So who know?
That would be sort of silly, wouldn't it?
RE: Update...(Kind of)

Yes and no. Yes, since you ordered FE because you'd want to get indx sooner. No because there's a chance that you won't get some untested beta version... but then again, we all might be getting some beta version...
But, they said for official version to start shipping in June. Yeah, right... first i thought i'd get my indx somewhere in august, now i'm more and more hoping that it WILL be this year...
RE:
They have very much indicated they can’t output the volumes required/forecasted with the current manufacturing process. So there will be a delay with FE getting theirs first. However, the highest probability is there will be a slight overlap between FE and Prusa orders. So yes if you are down to receive the FE as part of the last batch, I can see there only being a couple weeks at most between then and Prusa getting their initial shipments out the door. Only delay will be the time to ship from Sweden to Czech and then the time for Prusa to pack the Indx tool head into boxes
