@jürgen I am not sure I understand your point: the horizontal bar is mounted to the frame. The new front panel is, if you want, a huge horizontal bar that now spans from the upper frame down to where the original bar is. There is no difference, it is just a larger (and optically uglier) horizontal bar!

Looking forward to see what you mean! 😀

My point was that the new "fence" is supported by the upper enclosure profile -- well, it actually is an extended version of the upper enclosure profile -- and that this profile has so far not needed to be at a defined position vs. the CoreXY motion system. But as @gb160 has pointed out above, the fence is probably also attached to the CoreXY frame. So once everything has been assembled and fits together, and the docking positions presumably get calibrated, it should be fine.

Well on the first version of the fence we saw (the Bondtech launch website images) , it was definitely attached to the core XY frame, the new version its hard to say because the only picture we've seen is rather limited.

Well... I guess there just needs to be a Core One Titanium. Literally made out of titanium... That would solve the stiffness issues.

Then we can have the unit be titanium oxide gold... Which would be a HUGE hit in the Middle East, India, and East Asia...

Problem Solved. Damn I'm good.

The stiffness isn’t an issue, it’s having available mounting points.
I’d be very surprised if future C1/C1Ls don’t have the front profiles updated to accommodate a mounting solution for the INDX tools, without obstructing the view from the front room much.

Based on Tommys comments on discord yesterday, I don’t think this aspect of it has changed. Just the cut outs, numbering and flush screw holes

I think they make a pill for that 🙃

RE: Update...(Kind of)

I think you can summarise the fence issue as a tacit acknowledgment that the Core One frame just isn't strong enough to cope with the Indx system and the fence while technically fixing the problem is a late stage bodge that cosmetically is a disaster.

I am looking at Bambu printers, I don't think the H2C solves the problems that the Indx solution does but considering a P2S to get multi-colour/material while waiting for Prusa to come up with Indx v2 or a fully welded chassis for the Core One printers.

Nah.

The frame C1 is built out of steel, it's plenty rigid and strong enough.

If it was there would be no need for the fence.

It looks like the problem is the available mounting points, I dont think the actual rigidity of the frame even comes into it.

Maybe but ask yourself how hard does the tool changer head hit the nozzle it is picking up to ensure it gets locked in the toolhead? If it doesn't get locked in properly every time that is a ruined print for sure and maybe some damage to repair as well.

On mounting points, this sounds like the fence solution is to avoid having to change out the xy plate, I would have no issue doing that as I built my printer but probably quite daunting for someone who bought a fully built one.

RE: Update...(Kind of)

Has Prusa published the detailed photos of the fence and the remaining view of the print today? They were promised on Reddit for "still this week, if all goes to plan", if I recall correctly. Unless Prusa works on weekends, or things did not go to plan, the pictures should be out now?

RE:

Everyone is coming out with tool changers now. Even Flashforge... and they are designed to be CoreXY tool changers and not bolted on as an afterthought. Still scratching my head has to why Prusa never tried just scaling down the XL. Maybe it was just too expensive?

It’s a Maxwell coupling mate, they’re not smashing into each other.

Honestly from just looking at it, they could have provided 2 new vertical front profiles with the extra mounting holes need to a fix a (much less visually obstructing) plate across for the tools to mount to. At a guess is they went for the cheaper option which is more visually obstructive, and easier to fit.

Nothing put out yet …I thought the timescale was ‘within a week’ ? And that was from a couple of days ago?

The kinematic coupling only ensures the position/alignment is correct and repeatable, it still needs something to hold it together with the required force under all operating conditions so there is an insertion force that needs to be overcome when the nozzle is loaded and possibly released.

As for options, I think having something that all owners could retro-fit without too much difficulty was high up the requirements list hence the solution offered for the first 1k units. With time no doubt a more elegant solution will be arrived at.

I seem to recall they were talking about "this week", which I interpreted as "before the weekend". But I can't find that post anymore -- thought is would have been in one of these two recent threads. Either I misremember, or they might have deleted the post?

To be fair Tommy also replied to my post on discord asking for more detail and it seemed like this week was the target rather than a definite and they were still bottoming stuff out. Clearly a lot of updating and change going on in the background which explains the 4 week delay Screenshot
