more poop than expected?

I thought I read that the poop would be "a grain of rice".
Saw a video of a Core One+ INDX working this morning on facebook and the bin of poops had a LOT of them and they were definitely not "A" grain of rice. more like 5 or 6 grains.
Still better than bambu imo, but a lot more than expected.

I wanted to include the URL but of course the feed refreshed, as it does...

Yep, that one is from me. Larger waste there is from material change (so it purges more to clean the nozzle of old color/material) and the smaller ones are the regular ones.

Perhaps these are from changing to different filaments in the passive tools? The tiny poops are for priming the nozzle when the INDX is about to use the nozzle with the same filament again. Purging old filament from a nozzle during a filament swap should lead to larger poops.

It could also have been an unoptimized filament profile, where it defaults to behavior for a Nextruder or somehing. But yeah, it'd be good to see more real examples of actual print waste.

Isn't that video pre-grain of rice announcement? Maybe the process was further refined afterwards?

That video is old, the photos / videos shared recently show poops much closer to grain of rice size.

When I'm not at work I'll try and find some links!

That one might be, but the one I saw on facebook (that made me post this) claimed it was from a few days ago.
Here's hoping you're right 😶

The only way to avoid it entirely is to purge into infill. Bambu has this feature but have to be careful on the color selections and transparency of the filament.

I am actually (pleasantly) surprised that they can prime into a bucket, and quite quickly. I always thought it was a requirement to prime the nozzle under the same flow conditions as the subsequent print, i.e. deposit an actual filament trace.

Bambu printers require prime towers for this, although they have had the poop chute since day one. And in the default setting, Bambu printers spend an awfully long time priming, even after just switching between nozzles in the H2D (with the same filaments remaining loaded in the nozzles).

I can vouch that the "rice poop" is just that, the size of a grain of rice, if not smaller (depending on which type of rice you are talking about if you REALLY want to get technical).

There is a certain part of the calibration that has to be ran and depending on the success of it, you could have a connected string of rice, to something very compressed and few and far in-between.

With 3D Musketeer's video, its black "rice" in a black bucket, and yes you could run it through a video editor and change some settings to make it brighter, or I can try and ask for a photo of a sample of the waste. and yeah.. that ought to be a fun request... "Give me a photo of indx poop... Please"

Or maybe not print fiber filled filaments….

RE:

This is a more recent image. The larger poops are from the initial loading of the filament
