RE: Anybody following Bondtech's Discord community on INDX?
> Are there Discord communities/channels/whatever which are more serious and useful, or are they all like that?
It depends, surely there are a more steady and docused communities, and there are places where there is a flood of crap
It just seems that the chat format encourages those rambling "stream of consciousness" discussions with a terrible signal-to-noise ratio. I sometimes feel that even classic forum platforms like this one here "drag me in" too much. It would certainly be worse for me -- and, by the looks of it, for most users there -- on a platform like Discord. I better stay away...

I’m looking forward to the PrusaSlicer 3 improvements. It’s super hard to manage filament work flows and keeping everything in-sync between installations.
Also, this is not 10 years ago when there were gaps in innovation and not a lot of players on the field. As of 2026, there are just too many options which encourages one to be inpatient.
RE:
Forums and discord and other, they are different forms of communication. Some people prefer slow asynchronous ones that encourage thinking befor writing (emails or forums/reddit, facebook groups or whatever there is...), while other are better especially when you really gain from fast interaction such as Discord, which helps to do brain storming of the ideas or fast discussions or invaluable fast troubleshooting sessions. Of coure there are also voice formats like videos or live video chats, and mix of all above ( live stream with chat ..). You need to pick the one you prefer and do not force yourself to all of them, because it is a total time drain.
I would say reddit discord related to prusa3d got some changes in behaviour recently - old members went a bit quiet but they monitor the discussions and act accordingly, while some new people started to dominate some channels with faster messages.
The official prusa discord went much more active since the beginning of this year - some people are back to be active and this also leads to other people to be active and discuss things. But its not a typical youtube/twitch chat flood, it's much more normal and natural. I believe this also was triggered by the overall Prusa move to improve engagement with the community, similar to the forums updates.
There are more discord communities related to 3d print, but trying to follow all of them would be just a waste of time. That's why some people just hang out on only few of them or are active for some period on only specific ones - usually when looking for information or help. This also applies to the forums, or any other mentioned media platform.
So, choose your poison, set specific time limits for each to restrict the dosage 😆

RE: Anybody following Bondtech's Discord community on INDX?
I think the challenge and what frustrates me with discord the fact that it is designed to be monitored constantly. Which makes sense during an event, live stream etc. which is what is was originally conceived to be used for. But for general community engagement, it becomes a stream of conscious for many users and because of time zones and just the fact that people can’t be monitoring busy channels 24/7, people post similar if not the same things hours/days a part. Coupled with no means to easily search things most servers are a mess of repetitive information and discussions. I think those that grew up with social media from a very early age, enjoy this medium. Others like myself that can remember having a MySpace account likely aren’t as enthused by it.
RE: Anybody following Bondtech's Discord community on INDX?
Discord is a modern IRC but with a chat history, url previews and voice/video streaming. It can be used in a similar way as forums (some people call it slow mode), but it really depends on the number of people on the channel. I know some channels that get one or two messages a week, while the others are just a constant stream of excitement similar to the Mexican wave on the stadium.
Thankfully you can mute some channels to avoid the urge for reviewing them, because it leads to the stress known as FOMO (fear of missing out).
Just let it go, find the channels you like.
