Power grid is working outside of specification

I got a RSOD when printing today, particularly irritating, as it was 18 hours into a 24 hr print, and it wouldn't let me continue the print. Prusa's help section says it is a problem with the electricity network, but my mains network is ok. I am in UK.

UK power is usually pretty stable 'though the voltage can drift a little at times of high demand.  If Prusa support are correct then outside of a thunderstorm the most likely cause is some heavy equipment switching nearby and causing a local glitch - if you have an analogue (am/fm) radio plug it into the mains and let it entertain you for a few hours - any spark events or heavy unshielded loads will cause crackling or buzzing interference.  If you have a multi-meter and are confident using it with mains electricity check the mains voltage  periodically around the day.

If the voltage varies contact your power supplier.  If there is heavy interference, try and track it down, it is likely that equipment needs attention or it might become a fire risk.

The other possible culprit is a loose/dirty mains connection - check the power leads are clean and firmly inserted.

 - oh, and check the weather reports, was there lightening in your area at the time of the glitch?

Cheerio,

it was in the morning, no lightening, or anything else that could affect it. I will run another long print and see if it works. might just be a random anomaly.

RE: Power grid is working outside of specification

A few weeks ago, I was getting flashing lights in my house.  Turned out that it was related to the painter next door.  Every time they turned on their pump, I would get a glitch on the LED lights.  I set up my scope and captured the issue and confirmed it was her pump.

So it is possible for something outside your house to be causing issue.  When it comes to storms, it can be Km's away if there are strikes on the power grid and you are tied into that system.
